As Emig said, unless you have a wheel on your target, it's up to you to avoid the contact. You don't, you're gonna get trashed. Deservedly.

I am pretty sure that same exact thing happened with no one going down luckily the whole night by many riders. I guess they all don't know what they are doing according to the experts here. If Wilson or Barcia would have went down anywhere it would have been a puss move to a bunch of experts. Barcia and Wilson were bouncing left to right so much that if they were a foot closer someone would have gone down and would be getting the verbal beat down from the peanut gallery. This is racing not basket weaving. No wonder all the kids these days are such puss gangsta wanna be's which is just a complex because they have to hold mommies hand or they might stub a toe. Yep

That was the style of pass in that corner all night. Dive to the inside and force the guy to double the triple hoping for a pass. One of the best corner/rhythm/corner sections they have made all year. That section of the track kept guys in front on defense every lap and the racing proved it.

I think this sport needs to have bikes like slot cars. It might make all the cry baby fans happy that nobody would touch each other.

That was a real veteran move by Sipes (not). It just shows he isn't ready to move to the next phase. Didn't Bailey stop training him? I'm glad Wharton is ok, Sipes needs an attitude adjustment.

One of the favored ways to pass in the 250 class was to block a rider before that triple, because then your opponent couldn't jump it because it was too slick to just accelerate up the face and get enough lift. I assume that's what Sipes was trying to do, but he wasn't anywhere near in the right position, by the time he tried to lay a block on Wharton, Blake was already trying to hit the face of the jump, probably in 3rd. I really don't think Sipes was trying to ram him, but he blew it for both of them. And Wharton had a good shot at passing Wilson, because Dean-o was getting tired and it showed. Dumb move on Sipes' part, but when you line up, that kind of thing can happen.

I see where Sipes thought it was a good move to try a pass there.
I dont think he planned on wharton coming in and out as fast as he did.
Turned out to be a dumb move.
But you know what? Thats racing.

I for one am so pumped to be seeing such aggressive racing this year.

Lets go racing!

I don't believe it was dirty OR good hard racing--it was just a not very well thought out move--nothing good came from it. You have to...

You have to have a wheel in front of the guy if you expect him to shut off...they have to know they will run into your back wheel or back of the bike; that's good hard racing.
Giving another rider the option of shutting off or being center-punched is not a smart move or good racing...and that is basically what Sipes did, and his (and Wharton's) race was ruined because of that.

The whole deal is a shame because both had good rides up to that point.
agreed.

Sipes is a crasher. Davalos, Cunningham, Grant etc.. spots on a leopard dont change. Was hoping Sipes would've changed this year... looks like the same old Sipes, fast but makes mistakes and decisions that cost him wins. I don't think he'll ever win, just how it is. He's the east coast version of Davalos.

I'll bet all the people who think that move was "Fine and dandy" don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to racing. You are the same Rocket scientist who go to races to see crashes.
And I'm sure you will be excellent pee wee parents, "Little Bobby if you can't pass Little Tommy just knock him down, after all we are racing for a $5.00 piece of plastic! 6 years of running a pee wee track I've seen it all!

So does this mean Dean Wilson is a dipshit for breaking Durhams foot?

Stupid move on Sipes part, no question. Although, what's funny is that in circus-cro... I mean, "arenacross", that kind of move would be 100% acceptable (and expected).

Sipes' take-down happened closer to the jump face than the corner. Very bad move. Emig's take on it is spot on.

It was kind of bone-headed, but that's what happens when you have a track with no decent passing zones anywhere, and is narrower than usual.

I don't know how anyone could call an aggressive pass attempt that took the passer down a "Smart move! That's the way to race!". Emig was 100% right.

That said, I don't think Sipes was intentionally trying to t-bone Blake. The track was as slick as a hockey rink and he just came in way too hot to square it up.

(Found someone had posted the clip on Youtube).

Yeah watching that a few more times, Sipes should have seen Blake in his peripheral vision and let up, but he seemed desperate to make the move on him since the race was finishing up. I don't blame him for trying to make the move, unfortunate they both went down.
