She's easily able to throw down for a new ride, but loves that car.
And stubbornly wants to drive it past the half a million mile mark.
Beautiful TL Type S. Fantastic cars. I could type out a book about them, but I'll spare you. Keep the transmission fluid changed - and you'll never stop that one. Pains me to say it, but a new car wont be half as good as that 20 year old car.

Fuck replacing old shower valves. Opposite side of the wall was a kitchen cabinet. This big, ugly escutcheon was the only way to do this. I helped a friend out today. Getting a torch in the wall to sweat wasn’t ideal. Too many cobwebs that would’ve taken off. I had to use close quarter press heads to get this to work.
Got the valve installed. The trim didn’t fit. Had to pull the valve stems (which were brand new) and, buy a different set to use the trim. Something so simple, turned into a bitch.
Within industry standards.

A 2 hour job turned into 5. The hard part was finding handles and trim that didn’t leave the valve stems exposed. I wanted to kick that valve out of the wall.

Had to reverse engineer an old homemade part after an engineer decided he was going to be "hands on" when he should have been "hands off".
Kind of a hobby more than a trade but I posted a couple of sumwifes stained glass projects in this thread. The other day she found a solid door with ten window panes in it that said “Free”. I went to hang it and out A, the door wasn’t square (rectangular) and neither was my door frame lol. After some chiseling and adjusting I got it hung for the craft room. She’s got ten projects to do to fill up the windows. 1 down, and #2 well underway. Should be a fun door when she’s done

Whew, eventful weekend.
5.5hr road trip to deliver my latest project.
Built for really good friends, and they hadn't seen it until I set it up.
They loved it. She immediately sent photos out to friends. So now it's grown into matching bedside tables.
Then today made two side trips, on my way home, to Hickory and Asheville N.C. to talk to their friends about building items for them !!
Crazy how one project can spiderweb into multiple projects for old friends, and now, new friends.
I kind of want to be semi retired, but if people want to pay me to play around in my workshop...

How many hours go into something like that? Love your stuff. When my kids get old enough to stop destroying everything I'd like to have some built in shelves put in our place. You're not that far from Louisville!
I quit counting after 100.
Much more than that.
Most of my customers are in N.Carolina. (everyone around here has too much of a "quick home depot" mentality.)
And my shop is in Kingston Tennessee.
So a bit of traveling is the norm.
Built this glass shelf project a while back...
Really beautiful work. I think I have the skill to do woodworking like that, but I KNOW I don't have the patience to focus on one project for that long. That's an entirely separate skill set itself!
The most "patience" is needed with the multiple stages of sanding.
The top alone probably has 4-5hrs from 100 grit to get rid of mill marks, to 150, 180, 220, 320, to a final 400 grit before clear finish layers go on. 6 layers with a 400 grit hand sanding between coats.
And a full 24hrs drying time between coats.
And a 1500 wet sand to finish up.
Staining is just as time consuming, light sanding between coats, after a full 24hr, or more, of time between coats.
Some days I'll spend an hour laying down a finish, and my day is done.
Now you’re in my wheelhouse! Haha.
What kind of sander do you recommend? Or do you use a couple different ones depending on what you're sanding?
