Didn't the EPA shut it down?

It really is such a cool track. I’d love to go one day. 

You post got me thinking back to the past and how many mudders we used to have at HP. Then it got me thinking.. does it rain anywhere anymore during the summer? Seems like we don’t get hardly any mud races anymore. 

Amazingly enough it's ten hours from Connecticut.

First trip down since '23. First time there was Damon Bradshaws return to Racing for Yamaha, probably been to 20 or so lol

This will be my 9th time going to High Point. Never missed a Steel City national from '04 to '12, but I miss it dearly. Does anyone else do Friday open practice? Debating on doing some laps.

I’ll be there! I’ve been almost every year for the past 30 years. It’s usually either ungodly hot or a torrential downpour. As of now, the weather says 76 degrees. Fingers crossed that doesn’t change! 

Man, I miss Steel City so much. The track was so fun to race, and the entire layout was just awesome for fans during the National. When I was 10-14 years old my buddies and I used to go behind the pro pits and jump the fence to get autographs and pictures because our parents would never pay extra for pit passes 😂

Pumped for the race this weekend! Although still have a bit of ptsd from the absolute mayhem in the parking lot last year after they red flagged the final moto 😂

It’s funny we’re talking about Steel City. I was messing around in the garage tonight and came across a few old photos my dad and I took (yes, with a disposable camera 😁). Also an event tee I have hanging from the first time I attended when I was 5 years old with my dad. And of course a photo of me in 2001. CR 125 and Alpinestars tech 8’s… don’t get much better than that! I need to root around the attic and see what else I have.

I live ten minutes from what was Steel City and have heard a plethora of reasons. EPA is definitely the most common one. I’ve also heard internal family conflicts over money pushed Mad Mike to give up on it. I’d love to know the real reasoning though. 

Timmy C told me several yrs ago it was the EPA. He said they did everything the epa wanted them to do but they still made em shut it down because of run off from the track. He said they put all the dirt back where it used to be from photos the epa had but it still wasn't enough. Raced in the snow there one Easter Saturday. Loved that place.

I’m assuming the EPA was trying to say the runoff could potentially go to the water reservoir just a few miles down the road. But realistically I don’t think that could happen. Just sucks that they strong armed the track to the point of submission. 

Now that we lost Pitt Race to a data center and we are potentially losing the drag racing track to a data center as well (they also used to have a nice moto track), we’re not going to have a lot of motosport facilities here in western PA. 

Here’s to a long and healthy future for High Point. I’m still impatiently waiting for High Point to get a MXDN. 

Now if they would bring back the high point track from the late 80's
