Mid = Average

Example: That chick is mid at best.

I think this season if Deegan and Cole could race without worrying about winning a championship and simply race with each letting it all hang out, I think Haiden wins 6-7 times out of 10 races.  Cole said numerous times this year on each east west shootout (except for SLC), he was solely focused on winning his championship and didn't want to focus on anything else.  Not sure why Deegan fans can't accept that fact.  Cole wasn't giving it 110% earlier and wasn't going to risk going down or getting injured.  I know that's a really hard pill for Deegan fans to swallow.  SLC was the only race this year where they could both race all out with no fucks given on the race outcome in terms of crashing.  And, look who came out on top.  Best 250 race of the season, by far.  Cole ran him down, roughed him up Deegan style on the pass, and won the race.  Deegan tried 2-3 times to catch him and rough him back up and ended up crashing out.  Davies made a statement.  I still believe Deegan wins 6-7 out of 10 races against Cole given their age and race experience.  But if you look at where Cole is today versus where Deegan was at Cole's stage of his career, Cole is ahead.  Same for comparing Cole to Jett.  Cole is a freak.

I would have said that too (Haiden wins 7/10 head to head), prior to this last race.

I think the intimidation factor was removed,  and without that factored in, Davies is at least as fast (in 250 SX) as Deegan.

Biased aside we’re not even sure if he is “mid”. He’s never raced outdoors…

Haiden had to put that big smile on his face cuz he would have looked like a dumbass for riding the same way he did in vegas and got schooled again ..

He raced a couple rounds last year after coming back from rj landing on him. Won a moto straight off the couch. Cole is far from middle of the road. You will see.

Speaking with his former trainer Ben Townley, he explained to me that the plan was to make him a SX rider. He won't do as good outdoors right off the bat, but that moment will come. And given his riding style, he'll be a top 450 rider as a rookie. The future is great for him.

Just for the sake of conversation, is it harder to become well rounded as an SX specialist (MC?) or for an MX specialist to become competitive at SX?

Cole may be a grinder but I wonder how many of these 250 kids consider themselves to be better outdoors?

Good bench racing question, but to be fair, everyone starts out as a motocrosser.

Not Davies. By the looks of it the first thing he did was riding whoops on a pw50.

Lol. Thanks Mav! I had heard it before, I just didn't think it had caught on to the point we are putting it in thread titles. My "head in the sand while society crumbles around me" strategy must be working....

It’ll be interesting to see how Davies develops outdoors. Last summer was basically a throwaway with the injury, and I don't really remember seeing him at all in the SMX rounds.

I get that Cole was awarded the win, but in head to head shootouts, Deegan won two. The win was on paper only for Davies.

He was mentioning that Deegan has multiple more years in the class compared to Davies. Yes Deegan was better than Davies this year but their history and trajectories are totally different. People love to say how Deegan is the best 250 rider ever until someone beats him…

I understand. I was talking about the comparison stats. I think it would look slightly better for Deegan with the win that was taken away. Whether Deegan is the best 250 rider ever is up for debate. RV has slightly better stats. Either way, Deegan is up there.

Trey Canard, much like Cole, had early success in the 250sx class, but injuries took their toll on his career once he moved to the 450 class.  Also, while Davies has a better trajectory at this point in his career, it’s not just better than Deegan’s. It’s better than Jett’s and Jett’s rookie 450 mx season is better than any other rider in the history of the sport so I don’t put much weight into trajectories this early in a riders career since it can go in any direction.

Davies is a great rider- but this season Deegan had no issue coming thru the field, passing and then easily gapping Davies…short memories in this place.

Without Deegan expecting Davies dominates in 2027, but last year some of you thought in 2026 he was second coming of Jesus..

I agree with everything you are saying, but they just don't get it, Brad.  You ever head of the speed of sound?  Pretty fast.  How about the speed limit in the universe, the speed of light?  That's super duper fast.  186,000 miles per second.  Well guess what? There's a new category, and physicists are marveled and shaking in their Hoka sneakers at this new discovery.  It's called the Speed of Deegan, and not even the recently unclassified UFO documents can explain or account for the instant acceleration and anti-gravity based propulsion of number 38 on the 4fiddy.

But the world better prepare itself for what's coming in two weeks at Pala.  There's gonna be an unidentified flying object with the number 38 on it and it's going to stand on the top of the podium.
