After more than 45 years on two wheels, I have amassed a collection of probably 20 or more, even while giving or throwing some away. Dirt bike helmets, street cruiser, sport bikes, and a few for the sxs. Am I Abby Normal or ?

Completely normal..

I have ~20 or so helmets. Mostly all “moto” helmets (with a few snowmobile FXRs).

My main issue is that I have several I’ve never worn or just once or twice- it’s ridiculous.

Not odd.

I buy a new moto lid every year, or after 2 good crashes. New lid is that year's race helmet, last year's race helmet is this year's trail riding helmet, last year's trail helmet is this year's night riding helmet.

When one hits end of life, the straps get cut out and up on the wall it goes. A lot of helmets up on my shop wall and while some still look wearable from the outside, some show very visible external evidence of doing their job!

I started cutting the straps out simply because I was finding myself occasionally grabbing a 10yr old lid and putting it on. Don't want to get rid of them, but I know I shouldn't be wearing them either.

I have about 25 from my 45 years of racing dirt bikes, I have given away or lost  a few over the years.

Still have my custom painted Bell Moto 4 from over 40 years ago.

One helmet I lost years ago was a sky blue Arai with the screw on mouth guard, wish I still had that one.

I only have 1 right now. I don't replace mine as often as I probably should, I'll get a new one every 6-7 years. I don't ever cut the straps off. I take our old ones to Baja and hand them out to kids / teenagers we see riding without them. They're always stoked and even though most are crashed in or old and "Not Safe" according to some, they're still better than what those kids are wearing, nothing. Speaking of which I'm due for a new one. I'm not a fan of my 6d atr2, the helmet itself is fine but I have not been able to find a goggle for that helmet that doesn't pinch my nose. Next helmet I buy I'm trying on goggles with it. But to answer the question, 1. Pathetic I know but I don't keep our old ones.

sumdood,

I had the exact same issue with my ATR-2...every goggle I tried pinched my nose!! Was annoying as he!!.Recently though, I was at my local moto shop and picked up a pair of 100% Accuri 2's, which I've never tried. Low and behold, they fit perfect. Zero issues now after several rides. In fact, liked them so much, I picked up another pair. I would've saved myself a chitload of $$ if I tried them in the beginning.

I think I have 3 MX helmets, 2 Bell and a Leatt.  Also have 2 dual sport helmets, one for my wife’s SxS and another I thought I had to have to ride my trail bike with which I never ride.

I have one "current" helmet and about five retired ones. There are a handful of kid's helmets too. I have thrown lots of old ones away. Don't really know what to do with them when they're done getting used.

13 yo into riding, i have used 3 helmets:

1st has been thrown away

2nd i keep it as a memory, broke my collarbone and 3 spinous processes in MTB

3rd one i’m still using it, it’s 6 years old so i’m starting to look for a new one.

The 1 and 2 are the same helmet in 2 different colorways, 3 is an Airoh 2.1

I’ve got 4 of my own that are in circulation, my go-to is a very light and comfortable carbon shell Klim, then a couple of mid price lids, and an open face ONeal I use when doing race course building. Then the wife and kids have one or two each, plus a few that were crashed out of use.. Then a bunch of MTB helmets..

Around 20 including the family. My Klim is about aged out, looking at another one of the same or a 6D ATR3. And a new MTB helmet. I never thought about it, but we have helmets all over the garage and toy hauler

47 , but “don’t judge me” 😜

30 retired helmets hanging around the top of my garage wall, various brands and sizes from the last 50 years. Most were my sons, but a few are mine that are busted up from a bad crash. The rest are a mix of Bell Moto 9, 6D ATR1/ ATR2 and ATR3. Currently using the ATR3 models and they are the best helmet I’ve put on my head !
