it's only 2 races into the season and he already has a podium, but it seems like Dungey is lacking the speed and authority he showed on a consistent basis last season.
the first few races of last season with a healthy Stewart, Reed, and Villopoto, Dungey was flying and the only person that could touch him was Stewart, it seems like that is no longer the case this year. my over/under on victories (it's early) for RD1 is under 3.

I think we'll see some nice improvement this weekend. He's going to need a good start, too.
James and RV are clearly the top contenders at this point but it would be premature to count Dungey out, he could very well be playing it safe with the championship in mind...there are A LOT more rounds to go and anything can happen. RD's managed to acquire some solid points while taking minimal risks, and he's taken himself out of the spotlight and therefore removed the pressure that was on his shoulders coming into the season. I'm not saying he's done all this completely out of strategy, but he very well could have. We'll need to wait a few more rounds to really see what Dungey has up is sleeve if you ask me...

Plus Stewart/Reed is back and RV is focused, Canard has moved up..... they are all a similar speed starts are crucial.
And yeah, I hear they're hunting a little bit over in the Suzuki camp.
Pit Row
It all means that starts are more crucial than ever this year.
It takes a certain kind of mindset to run up at the front of the pack in the 450 class. It also takes more dedication and motivation than 99% of us on this board could ever fathom. We assume riding a motorcycle for them is as fun as it is for us weekend warriors, but to them, it actually is a job. Hitting a triple for one of the sports professionals is probably just as exciting for us taking a piss(if you think about it, they hit more triples in one day of practice, than the average bench racer uses the urinal for an entire week).
Just because we have a high excitement level for motocross because it is a hobby we get to enjoy occasionally doesn't apply to those who dedicate their whole lives around it.
This year RV is race ready and close to Stewart (like RD was in 10) but Dungey is not...Something is up...I guarantee he has his times from last year at the practice track and rumor is he went back to one hole exhaust(from the new two hole) since it worked well last year..etc. I suspect that he is trying to get back those 5-7tenths
I think Dungey is about the same speed as last year (maybe even a little better), just the other riders have stepped it up some. I think Chad does better on the Honda, plus he was hurt some of last year. Trey is constantly getting faster all the time. RV is in great shape, riding amazing and on fire. James is about the same but a lot more cautious. I know some people feel Dungey was just as fast as James at A1 last year, but I think James was just trying to get through that first race on the new Yamaha with some points and not a DNF like the previous year. I definitely would not count any of these riders out after 2 races, its a long season. I also think Chad, Trey and Dungey are capable of running laps very close to RV and JS JMO
