Now that made me lol
I was born in Redondo and lived there until I was 13. Cleaning tar off your feet with lighter fluid was just a regular part of going to the beach.

Is everyone happy?
Say one day you get told that your best friend is going to die, but they can't tell you when.
Then they tell you that they have a solution, kind of...
This solution is to poison the body to near death to save you. Maybe.
I can't imagine being in a more terrible position.
Yet here I sit.
so...for someone that never lived west of Dallas, where did the tar balls come from?
Contamination from tankers loading and unloading?
Is there a hot tar spring somewhere underwater that gets washed up unto beach?
Spill the details please.......
I remember lots of tar at the Corpus Christi beaches I use to go to when I was a kid. No tar here at all where I live now in San Diego. No off shore drilling here.
I'm worried for your family (I'd also be worried for your friends, but they probably keep a safe distance from you already).
Only until the recent past have the beaches been mostly clean of tar balls. In the 70's and 80's I don't remember a beach trip without having tar all over the bottoms of our feet. Head up north and it is still pretty prevalent. Jalama beach is notoriously bad for tar balls.
Some of it is from oil production off shore, tankers leaking, etc. But it also can happen organically because well, it's earth and geology and shit.
I think tightening up the regulations helped the gulf around the Houston ship chanel quite a bit, Galveston used to be horrible.
I was born and raised a mile or so from the T-heads in Corpus, grew up on McGee beach and the jetties. Tar balls and Portuguese man-o-wars were part of life back then.
Damn
Praying for a miracle.
I don’t mean to pry…. I’m not understanding fully the meaning of your post. Are you ok?
No pry, it's cool.
Me? OK. My wife? Not so much.
I’m sorry to hear that. Prayers sent.
Wasn’t sure what you were alluding to but I’m so sorry brother. Prayers sent.
Prayers to you both, and strength for your wife.
I definitely feel for you. We are operating on a 'when, not if' prognosis for my wife also. She responded well to this batch of chemo so that buys us some time, but it will be a miracle for us if she gets 5 more years. Sometimes it's something we can put out of our minds, and sometimes it's the only thing we can think about.......
Pit Row
I remember being stupid enough to beLIEve in peak oil.... then got old enough to learn they just go back to old fields and pow, more oil again.... oil/gas is one of the biggest scam in this realm...
Thanks, fellas.
Yeah, Kevin, I remember your wife's struggles and prayers for successful treatment.
Our extra problem is "will she survive the treatment" because she is already compromised from a stroke 4 years ago, and already struggles to just care for herself. We have to make a decision and since her stroke, she doesn't understand speech very well and explaining things to her is difficult, especially something as complicated as this. I'm not looking for sympathy, but it's going to be pretty much my decision, and that's kicking my ass.
Anyhow, I wish the best for you guys, and apologize to everyone for taking this string into left field.
No apologies needed, my friend. I know this has been coming to a head for a while, now.
You’ve been dealing with a lot and, frankly, I’m jus’ damn proud of ya.
You and your girl are in my thoughts.
Think I’ll come on out in a few weeks and we’ll have a whisky and jus’ hang out…?
Damn Karl, that's heavy. Lean on your friends and us kooks here if you need anything. I'll be sending all the positive energy I can muster over your way.
I really appreciate it, boys. It may seem like "how the hell does this help him, really", but it does help. I'll take all the vibes I can get.
Oh, and Manu, as for the whisky, I do know a guy.
🤙
I didn't see this earlier. Unfortunately I have experience on both sides of that fence. During my chemo for transplant I always told my wife I had the easy job, all I had to do was get the treatment and get better. Then when she got cancer, I found out how hard it really was for her the worrying every day what tomorrow will bring. So gutted for you. Reading stuff like this brings tears to my eyes because I know what you're going through brother.

Glad you’re still with us TM. My oldest son battled cancer for several years . Fortunately it was found out soon enough. 4 surgeries and a round of chemo. He’s been good now for close to 8 years. He’s out riding this morning on his new 450. ❤️
Thanks, I didn't want to make this about me. Just wanted SMF to know my empathy is not hollow words. And good to hear your son had a good outcome!

We’re all just talking,….you’re alright BrotherMan.👍🏻
I certainly didn't take it as hollow, in fact, it's much appreciated.
My thoughts are with all you guys, and hope all remains positive.
