Just a reminder to be careful out there. I was riding with my kid and his friends, so going slow. My bike was pretty warm so I took off down a sand whoop trail to get some airflow. It curved around a cedar tree making a blind spot. I came around the tree and a kid on a 400ex was blasting down the trail right at me. There was a fence on my right and he veered left, but the trail was deep with tall ledges on both sides, so all I could do was get on the brakes. He got hung up on the ledge and almost rolled, but he was on the brakes as well. I put my front tire right into the middle of his bumper probably still going 15ish mph.

Overall it was as good of an outcome as you could expect for a head on. My bike is good, his 4-wheeler was okay, just a bent bumper. He was fine and I just have a sore left wrist and smashed the back of my hand on something.

Glad you are OK.

Couple years ago some complete tool  on a bike blew a dog leg corner at about 50 mph and swept my wife's front wheel out causing her to crash.  He ended up 40 yards off trail in the brush.

He didn't even have the decency to circle back and check on her.  He stopped and just stared back. Probably knew it was a better idea to keep his distance as I was screaming profanities at him.

I did have an (actually) polite chat with another guy in his group who came up on us after.  He was cool, apologized and said he'd have a chat with his buddy.  Signed beginner trail a mile from a popular staging area isnt the place to send it. 2 feet to the right and it could have killed her.  Normally I lead out on trails, but I had dropped back to check on my daughter.

After that, I hate riding public 2 way trails, particularly ones wide enough for quads.  I absolutely refuse to ride 2 way trails shared with side by sides.  You aren't winning that head on and they take up the entire trail width, leaving you no place to go.

Yet another reason MX is a better choice.  My ex-GF got hit and killed by a dune buggy in Glamis.  MX might be dangerous, but at least everyone is going in the same direction.

*mostly in the same direction (and sorry about your ex-GF)

Scariest thing I've ever had, was first time on a new (for me) track, I figured out the flow and went for some laps. Hit a jump and as I'm landing there's a kid on a 85 coming right at me, missed by about 3 inches. Turns out they had recently reversed the track direction and the kid didn't know so just went the old way. Wouldn't have ended well for either of us.

It's absolutely crazy that riding parks with two-way trails is a thing.

All trails should be one way, period.

Spend a 4th of July weekend at Gorman. You’ll find plenty of 2 wheeled knuckle heads to bar bang with.

We'll, after washing the bike and looking over it this is all I've found so far:

Fork guard did it's job, has a hole but no ding or dent on the tube.

And a weird one, my dust seal is smashed, but the inner and outer tubes look brand new. 🤷‍♂️ I was heavy on the brakes in sand whoops, so that mark on the fork guard may coincide with the flattened dust seal.

I have been to tracks with little satellite tracks that have no arrows for direction. I won't ride them. You have no idea if someone is going to show up and decide it looks more fun in the opposite direction.

Pretty much anyone who rides trails at speed has had some kind of incident. I came around a trail corner to see a guy on an ATV coming right at me. Worse yet, his kid was sitting in front of him and no helmets on either of them. He just closed his eyes. I slammed on the front brake, laid the bike over and gassed it to get out of the way. Missed him by inches. I prefer motocross tracks for this reason.
