I try to keep the spam to a minimum, but some shit ya just gotta see.

On the board there are some links to other sites that got a sequence of a first turn crash in MX2 moto 2 that is unreal.

Ahhh...I've had worst than that in my eye, and didn't even blink !

J / K...Great pix. I've raced one race in those type conditions, frozen fingers, and body chilled to the bone. Since, I keep a box in my rig filled with adverse race wear.

Riding in wet clay is 100 times worse than Dayona could ever be, because the clay sticks like glue and is slippery as grease.

Another bonus is that it is really difficult to wash off the bike - Ask anybody who raced Carlsbad or rode Elsinore after a rain...

Not only do they have transponders, they have 2 mid point receivers and the finish line, so you get a good idea of where everyone is at all the way through the course of a lap. Pretty cool.

Carlsbad was a race track. One of the best at that.


Elsinore is a Skateboard park on dirt, it's a joke.

But yes...Carlsbad was damn slippery when wet.

I was just reading a old mag MXA June 1991 about the Hangtown National that year and there was 3' deep water crossings and only 2 factory 250 riders even finished. Any pics of that out there?

In 1991 it seemed that the DDNMC could sell itself for a lot of money to the State of California in the quest for rainfall. The best comment, as ever, came from announcer Bruce Flanders(The Voice of Hangtown) when he welcomed the few thousand brave souls who came to watch the Classic as it rained from 9 am until 6 pm. The race track had to be 'rearranged' ... isn't that a nice word ... a few times to accommodate the new "South fork of the American river." As usual, when times are tough, the tough come to the top, and privateers Doug Henry and John Down were the winners. The best part had to be when all the factory heroes wanted to cancel out of the event, until local Vet Pro's Eric McKenna and Dave Coupe volunteered to ride a lap for a test and when they fired their machines and rode the lap, the fans went nuts and the National Pro's couldn't ignore them and had to give the fans the show they came to see.
