Event and time in top left, Running order scrolling into the Main Event Header. You could still put the Header Sponsor as well.

Interview in a smaller box in the bottom right. For split screen with racing and replay. Just make the box in the lower right corner bigger. Like a 70/30 ratio.

That's clean. I will say I'm not a fan of the scrolling order at the top. I look at the leaderboard often. But if it was temporary, during split-screen times for instance, I'd be okay with it.

I went and scanned through WSX broadcasts. They never used a 2 box split-screen.

This was the most egregious thing they did with screen space on their broadcast.

How about having them fix "Timing and Scoring" before doing anything else?

I don't think that would be within the scope of the broadcast. That's more likely an AMA thing. And to be honest, I don't really have a large problem with the timing and scoring.

I don't like the split-screen. That's why I started this thread about the layouts of the broadcast... So, we could talk about the layouts.

I get what you are saying. I just feel that the running order on the side takes up way too much space for what we need.

FIX 0

I don't want to be overly negative, and I know this topic is beating a dead horse. The truth is that I think a lot of people appreciate a split-screen (2 box) at moments in a race, but the execution is not good. The images I've provided here are a quick and dirty possible solution.

Image 1 (top left): An original screenshot from the actual broadcast. I show rough sizes of the screens for a 75-inch display (which is what I watch the races on). The Blue background takes up around 33.9% of the screen (wasted space)

Image 2 (top right): A potential solution to at least to improve the visibility of each screen by increasing the size of each box a bit more than 25%. The Blue background now takes up around 10.8% of the screen (still wasted space, but less.)

Image 3 (bottom left): An original screenshot from the actual broadcast when they were displaying an interview during the race. The Blue background takes up around 37.9% of the screen (wasted space)

Image 4 (bottom right): A potential solution to this. Display the interview in the race positions graphic. The Blue background now takes up 0% of the screen.

Another thing, they've determined the font for the race positions is a suitable size to be readable on screen. So... Why then are the labels for the separate screens ("Battle for 4th") so large?

It seems there could be much better solutions for the overlays and layouts of the broadcast.

It also might be fun to see some mock-ups as I know there are some talented graphic designers in this community.

What do you guys think?

Wow, this is really good. Thanks for calculating those numbers

As for the side bad running order. We only need top 5 or 10 and then rotate them. Top bar that scrolls would be fine, but I also hated trying to read the scroll bar on SPEED when it was going too fast. Either way, can we just NOT do an interview when the race is going on? They act like this sport isn't exciting enough when they turn your attention to someone not involved in the actual race. Its disrespectful to the riders to be doing that. Give us full screens. JUST TRY IT FOR ONE RACE NBC!!!

I noticed that last weekend in Arlington. Much better that way than having it on the left side of the screen.

Ah no shit I missed it then, I think this view is better for the split screens than how they normally do it. Moving the running order temporarily and keeping one almost full screen an one smaller works nicely.

I definitely noticed when they went to a full screen replay during the main when the battle for the top 3 was still close. Fuck that’s infuriating.

Replays small box, battle for the lead big box. How fucking complex is this.
