They are all shady as fuc$, sad how so many have no morals once they get a taste or born into money
Do you really need an agent in this sport, does Eli have an agent? I think ML mentioned that it’s Eli and his dad at the negotiation table with the brands. I remember seeing or reading that DV12 never used an agent either.
Depends upon how you define need.
The benefits of having an agent, aside from the obvious RE: negotiation, is the connections. These provide opportunities for deals with more brands, other industries, etc. Being with someone like Wasserman is beneficial in that they represent some of the top talent in the world from multiple disciplines. It's like a big club of sorts.
Some riders are better equipped to do it on their own, like DV. Others, maybe not as much.

It really depends. If you’re someone like Eli, who comes from wealth and has a father that has been through it and can guide him at 16 years old then no, probably not. But if you’re someone who didn’t come from a lot of money then you’d most likely benefit from having an agent. Also, Eli has never been into the promotional side of the sport. He simply races. A guy like Jett, he has to navigate social media, his business, and his racing career. All while beginning his career here around 16 years old.
Not everyone has a solid family and/or understanding of business. Plenty of athletes have been burned by their own, unfortunately.
The bigger the sport, the more potential earnings available, the more important it becomes to have both an agent and a solid business manager. An argument can be made that MX is not that big. But you have to know that it will be much tougher to get your rider (or yourself) in front of the people representing big sponsors without connections.
stop calling these people "Agents"... In any conventional, stick-ball sport (or marquee motorsport in Europe, outside of MXGP) you need to be accredited via the state as well as have a Masters or Law Degree... we have Real Estate Brokers, Bro-Cals finest, former Mechanics & o.k., yet-homeschooled retired Riders. I will give credit to Jeremy Debize (at WMG in Europe). Genuinely only competent person I've ever come across in that role. He's done great work with some mutual friends in MotoGP, certainly respect him.
In theory, what you said should make sense - but begrudgingly - we do not live in Should-land. You can absolutely refer to them as Managers - to that, most of whom are just glorified assistants (the term Man-friend used to be the phrase used). You reference "connections" - what... with respect, what / who are you referring to? The geniuses over at WMG (with its immense portfolio of clientele / brands) have never brought any of them over? & they certainly had opportunities to play savior (ie sitting on their hands watching a team die with what? 3/4 of the guys there "managed" by them at the time?).
Idk, I can only speak from personal experience, & personally, I wish you fans got more transparency in this regard. Just, don't think of these people as Ari Gold (entourage, if anyone would understand the reference) & more like, just a dude you see putting on tear-offs, driving them to track, cooking for them, or bro-ing down with the same inside-industry brands that have been around for decades haha
Moto, the only sport where your GED will get you a position as a journalist, team manager or agent
I’m talking about more on the moto side. Take someone like Trey canard for example, on Gypsy tales he was saying that on his higher years with Honda he was earning around 850k a year, do you think he would’ve benefited from having a agent to negotiate that? I honestly don’t. I don’t know if he had an agent or not, I’m just using him as an example. Would a Carson Mumford type guy benefit from a agent and does said agent only get paid off deals landed?
There are many reasons why an agent can be a good idea for athletes. One of the biggest ones, I believe, is that they can negotiate with less emotional warfare than an athlete can themselves. Negotiations are usually a case of the athlete wanting to get paid as much as possible, and a lot of athletes have delicate egos when it comes to hearing honest feedback about their performance and abilities. The ‘employer’ (used loosely because of the independent contractor nature) can be much more frank and open about what they feel an athlete’s value is to their agent without having quite the same degree of potential animosity because of it. And on the flip side, an agent can represent their athlete’s value to the employer without it becoming something personal or causing division in the same manner.
Not every contract negotiation is contentious and some are probably almost so smooth that an agent may not have been needed or beneficial, but once you start talking about 7 figures annually and short periods of earning potential, they almost become a necessity.
How did Marchbanks lose his first PC ride again?
By connections I mean business relationships that the agent or manager (and/or his firm) has previously established with companies that sponsor racers. If your uncle Billy’s only experience is negotiating a 20% off parts deal with the local dealership, he might find it challenging to get a phone call returned from Progressive Insurance, even if you won your class at LL’s.
“You fans”……bro, you talking down us vital members? You are posting here but not a fan yourself? 😉
I was hopping in here to post this today. Wild. All these ped's across the globe are so connected to everything.
I have seen that Bondi allegedly said that if they pursue the Epstein conspirator and "client" list that the system will collapse. I don't know if the quote is true or not, but I can see that outcome being a real possibility. There are already quite a few being dismissed in Europe. In general, the US population is too disconnected from reality (read that as "stupid') to care what is happening, and of course the political elite will protect their own regardless of how deep the depravity. Yes, I'm American. Calling it like I see it.
I saw the same thing. It’s literally like the joke they can’t prosecute us all if we don’t pay our taxes, but it’s the elite demons saying if we all do horrible things they can’t take us down so insane
Come on bro! Surely you mean the only sport where you don't even need a GED - let alone any other qualification - to get a position as a 'journalist', team manager, or 'agent'...
Most of the people in these roles failed to graduate from the Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Don't Read Good...

There is no evidence whatsoever that Bondi said something to that effect. See here and here. While I don't rely on either of those sources as valid 'fact checking' entities, I'm pretty sure if she DID say something like that it would be all over the mainstream news - and it isn't. Then again maybe they're all in on it. Lol.
I was going to say that but I knew someone would say so and so was home schooled and has a GED to fact check me so thought I would be generous
Also ive seen a bunch of talented riders where their parents, family and close friends Just only offered bad advice. Not because they had bad intentions but simply were not the best at making decisions.
A good manager could help wonders with that.
No part of the Epstein files is "all over the mainstream news"
Reporting about it would be negative for the people who own the news outlets, so they don't. It's pretty simple
Perhaps, but that doesn't change the fact that Bondi didn't say that. Reference a credible source and I'll eat my words. I'm waiting.
My point wasn't that she said that, I don't know whether or not she did and I don't care either way. My point was that "if it was true it would be all over the news" isn't an argument that holds weight
I love the logic: 'If there's evidence, it's true. If there's no evidence, it's a cover-up, so it's still potentially true.'
You've built a world where you can never be wrong because 'the system' is hiding your proof for you. That’s very convenient for winning internet arguments, but it’s a pretty poor way to find the truth. Let me know when you find a transcript that exists in reality.
Don't know if you realise but I never claimed Bondi said anything.
Also not sure what your first paragraph is about, you seem to think that the news has to report something for it to be true? Or at least something can only be used as evidence if it's reported by the news?
Also I don't think you comprehended what I said
If you talked to half of these guys I think it would be... a rude awakening for you on their levels of knowledge on anything outside of riding a dirt bike.
I comprehended it fine; I’m just waiting for you to realize how thin your 'point' is. You're hiding behind the obvious fact that the news isn't 100% of reality to avoid the fact that there is zero evidence for the Bondi claim elsewhere.
If 'the news didn't report it' isn't a valid indicator for you, what is? Twitter rumors? Your gut? If you have no source, no transcript, and no news coverage, you don't have a 'point'—you have a fantasy. You're effectively saying, 'You can't prove it's false because the media is biased,' which is just a fancy way of saying you'll believe whatever you want regardless of the facts.
