I actually think it would be cool to give normal main event points in the triple crown events and then a bonus to the overall winner.

That's essentially how the MX Nationals work and the overall results have become basically meaningless there.
Giving full points to each race would essentially make each Triple Crown like a normal race triple header (with very short main events).
Showing event points as they run in the second moto makes no sense to me, third moto, sure. But it makes no sense whatsoever to show who’s winning the overall with another race left to run.

I think they should make it a 'Double Crown' instead - with two longer mains.
10 points for first in each race, goes down by a point from there. If you win all 3 you get a little bonus from normal round but not so much so that it's devastating if you miss the round. If in three tries you don't make the top 10 you don't get points, just like outdoors.
I find it interesting and I'm glad they show it on the broadcast. I think it makes sense if you think of the 3 races as pieces of a continuous event (which it is from a scoring perspective). In a standard main event, would you only care about the running order on the final lap?
And hold the race on a real outside track!

They just need to go away... more dangerous... the riders already overworked... a normal sx is plenty of action... triple crown is just feld bringing in the circus...

They need to follow how WSX does it to determine the overall....10pts to win for the first two and 25pts for the 3rd...total score determines the overall....better than the olympic system they use now.
EDIT of course I'm pretty sure our announcers won't be able to handle the math just like the WSX announcers couldn't......
The current Olympic points does not reward race winners. J-Coop first 450 win & has nothing to show for it pretty crappy deal. A 4-3-4 should not beat a 5-1-5 it wouldn't outdoors.
Use the regular points structure add them up, top points gets the win 25 points for O/A winner
Maybe 1 bonus point for race winner 2 & 2 bonus points for race win 3.
Or all race winners on the final podium descending based on points.
Love the TC, ditch the current points structure.
