After seeing the new tracks released and realizing the finale is basically a concert venue with a 95% supercross track (not a hybrid sx/mx track that was originally proposed). Why not hold the finale at an actual motocross track then build the SX portion….like Budds Creek.
They already have the short track stadium that would be used to build the SX section. There’s already a start straight there so they wouldn’t need to occupy more space to accommodate the start area. I’m tired of these glorified SX tracks with and extra sand section added and pretend it’s an outdoor section. Supercross can be built anywhere, not really the case with true Motocross.

while I don’t hate the premise of this idea, I don’t think this would work
Seems like SMX is trying to target new locations that don't already have a Pro MX or SX race.
Your picture doesnt show topgraphy.
Been awhile since i have been there but i dont think you could see any of the rest of the track from the short track bleachers.
Kind of reminds me a bit too much of lake Elsinore the first year they ran into the truck track for their national.
Plus, after charlotte last year i bet they dont risk another venue that does not have lights in case of a delay.
Glen Helen! Infield could be prime SX zone without much work at all.
Flame away…

It would be cool, I’d even like to see one round pure mx and one round pure sx. But I’m guessing they want stands for maximum viewership.
We need the LA Coliseum back...
Kenworthys would be perfect.
Is that an SMX track design or a rorschach test?
Depending on how tormented I'm feeling it either looks like Alpinestar tech 7 or a 2 headed chicken with its heads turned backwards
While I’d be thrilled with having a race 45 minutes from home that isn’t happening anytime soon. Last pictures I’ve seen of that place it was long long gone
Which is what I thought until they announced this year's final round at an outdoor concert venue.
The topography would work for the tracks to mesh up seamlessly (just ask Jason Lawerence, he did this during the middle of a national).
But yea the row of trees would prevent the viewing at both, but you could just sell general admission like during the nationals and walk around during the motos.
I thought it was the new Kawasaki 2 stroke?
Should make a joker lane jump over the pond
I know, I only dream. It's 1.5hr from me
The jump up Henry Hill would be fun to watch!
A massive amphitheater green that seats 20,000 is functionally the same as stands.
Then Budds Creek amphitheater landscape and bleacher seating at the dirt track should be more than enough.
I don’t hate it, but viewing would be poor IMO - you wouldn’t be able to see the SX sections, or the MX sections depending where you sit. I couldn’t see the speedway at all when I went to the National
Pit Row
Not the same, at all.
The moto track that is ideally suited for an idea like this is Gatorback. They already have a moto track that was on the pro national calender for years and a mild SX track that uses the same start straight.
Smx is a gimmick. So they need a gimmick to sell it as something different. Not sure why.
silly ‘hybrid’ tracks or not, I just wish they didn’t do the points reset so full year consistency would become the priority for guys wanting to win that extra million for the smx title.
Your right, the quality of the product we're getting in person and on TV deserves to stay the same at these make-shift tracks on the side of a concert venue, or the parking lot at the Charlotte Drag strip.
Look: you may not like it, but that's the type of event the series promoter wants to put on. Saying a traditional MX track is the same as a stadium because it has a hill and some bleachers is disingenuous.
My mind is blown -- I had this same exact idea while I was zoning out driving to work this morning -- Budds Creek + utilizing the flat track section for a supercross section. I'm not a conspiracy guy, but sim theory is becoming more and more reasonable lol.
Budds is the only national track that I've ever been to, that's why I was thinking of it. But, what it really comes down to is hosting an SMX at a location that has some elevation change... because what is motocross without some topography?
The best idea I’ve heard is from Chris Riesenberg.
Build a pop-up stadium at a motocross track so there is enough seating for the SX portion of the track. This would look similar to the WM open.
You could then have the rest of the track be motocross and set up TV’s in the pop-up stadium so fans can keep up with the entire race.
I never knew those were temporary stands. They look pretty permanent to me. Since that is so, I agree it would be an awesome idea. Bring the party atmosphere while they are at it.
Keep in mind: This is also like a half billion dollar economic impact event, with total production costs into 100's of millions.
Yes, I think realistically it would have to be a budget-alternative, something more in the line of of pop-up bleachers/grandstands -- not the whole "stadium-like" facility WM open built.
Feld could also potentially be responsible for the seating, so that they can transport/set it up between rounds. Don't know the logistical challenges of that, but at least do it for one round so we can have a true SMX track.
Feld only wants to be responsible for picking up the check
Hell yeah OP. I see your idea and raise you something like this. Basically just build a "SX" section on top of the hill and throw some portable grandstands up there, the rest is practically the same!
