Got this one in a PR from Dubach Racing last week...

"While we applaud Honda’s direction, the stock exhaust, when sound tested, is drastically lower than current AMA standards leaving ‘power on the table by giving away dBs’ and pushing racers into dealerships to bolt on DR.D performance."

What do you think?

Noticed the over-reaction myself. If it's 94 Db, why release a bike that tests at 89?

R & D based on the existing market?

I applaud Honda as well if that is true, giving up horsepower for sound. At least in my opinion, it shows Honda cares about the future of our sport in regards to sound.

Bingo. Just because the max limit is 94db doesn't mean everyones bike has to put out 94db. Back when they were the underpowered minority, loud 4-strokes were kinda cool. Now they're annoying as hell. Thank you Honda for NOT making your bike as loud as possible.

Put your curve anywhere you want and make as much HP as you can within the "noise" parameters.

The 2011 Honda (along with the other OEMs) was designed to pass the 2 M Max test which is 115db measured after a full throttle twist. The issue of MXA with the 450 shoot out has the 2 M Max sound test reading on the Honda.

I can't think of the eact number off the top of my head but I do recall it was below 115.

When I just read the PR on the homepage just a minute ago, the quote makes sense now. When read alone, it was confusing a bit, but when read in context with what they're trying to accomplish, I can at least understand what's being said and the objective of it.

Sport bikes (street) have been very quiet for years while giving up very little power. I think the biggest problem is that loud FEELS fast.

Ya because all other forms of motorsports have sound restrictions right? I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but its racing. Have any of you been to an NHRA, Indy or Nascar race? The sound definitely doesn't keep people out of the stands

For trails, I can definitely see and support the argument..

Yep because most people take their Drag car or NASCAR down to the local track on the weekend which is not far from other peoples property or houses and run them all day long every weekend and some days druing the week.

And not just a couple of people Thousand and Thousands of them!

I Agree that the sound argument should be different for PRO level racing, but for all other racing and also any other type of riding it needs to be kept to a reasonable level, other wise the hippies and Greens of this world will make sure the sport is a thing of the past.!

I hate aftermarket exhaust companies that allow the removal of the outer bung to be more than 98db at most. All the non racing wankers instantly remove them so they can "go faster". WANKERS!!

I am literally the only sport bike rider I know in my city with stock exhaust on my CBR.



They may be manufactured quiet but they don't stay that way.

I think what they are getting at is, it's for racing. If the cc limit is 250cc, you want 249.9. If the weight limit is 216lbs, that's what you want. There are plenty of fast young riders out there that wring a 250F out and can use the extra power. Doug Dubach is a racer and he thinks like a racer.

I laugh when I see people spend thousands on accessories, especially exhaust, that 95% of the general racing/practice rider public will never see the benefit of. Twist the throttle a little more. Thats what I was always taught. And that was on 250 two strokes. 450 thumpers are freaking unreal fast.
I'd gladly take lower db's and day of the week and twice on tuesday. especially if it means I can use that to my advantage with dirt bike hating neighbors and townships.
