SX Track Dirt

Edited Date/Time 1/26/2026 12:33pm

I thought A1's dirt was some of the best we've seen for years. Corners were loamy and loose on the tops WITHOUT the stupid ruts everywhere. Some of the valley's had ruts, but they weren't insane. The track also didn't seem to break down so fast. I'm wondering if the AMA's "extra track prep time" idea was the factor in that. Thoughts?

I felt like it was the exact opposite. It looked like there were pebbles all over the track.

Those guys could toss the back end into the top of most berms and rail it like they could 22 years ago on 2 strokes.

Anything is a welcome break from the slot car rut tracks. Might not be perfect but nice to see something different.

It’s Southern California, it’s windy and the dirt is naturally hard. Unless it rains, this is what you get.

Once it moves east the ruts will return, unless it’s raining in Seattle, then there will be ruts again.

It looked slick and technical. Good dirt but the track design didn’t race very well. It was very start dependent and Kenny and Eli could have just as easily went 5&6 had they got bad starts.

Personally I like watching the guys struggle. It becomes a chess game when they’re racing the track more than the other riders. When it’s technical like that it comes down to who can struggle the least and adapt the quickest.

Oh the calamity, pebbles, pebbles everywhere!

I believe that the track conditions were a result of a late build with filler dirt vs. more prep time.

It was start dependent, but the top two gapped 3rd by nearly 30 seconds? Ok....

There were at least three obstacles that the majority of 450 guys couldn't do EVERY lap. Both 3-on out of corners and the 3 into the corner after the whoops.

I'm not saying that was a GREAT track, but when was the last time we've seen three differentiators on one supercross track?

One of the podcasts said they mixed gravel with it to dry it out before bringing it in. Seems crazy but what do I know. Not a fan of totally rutted out tracks and think the racing is better when they can move around, so whatever achieves that is what I'm in favor of. The amount of gravel in tracks was one of the many things that surprised me when I did track walk a couple years ago.

Seems like the dirt has made for some pretty decent racing the first three rounds??? A1 was a little dry for sure but held up and didn't seem to put a damper on passing. SD and A2 were a bit different but still seemed pretty good.

A2's dirt seemed to be a lot softer. I honestly think the extra track maintenance time is working. Even though they could've fixed the tight corners before the 450 main. Dirt hasn't been "horrible" just yet.
