The shorter landing that Johnny drew is what we built on an SX track in Redmond Oregon, late 90s I'm remembering. I was on my CR 500 and was damn thankful for that short flat landing. I jumped it several times with faster friends objecting not to. They did do this long ass huge triple on the front straight, which had big square bales in it to make it longer. No thanks. I think my suspension was to soft.

For everyone who likes to hate on Johnny Hopper, has David Bailey ever called you?

I'm a member of a Club that operates a track with a 110ft triple. The double portion is so short you can almost crawl over it.  Anything too fast and you're into a rising face of the 3rd jump. For years many members have suggested a change to something similar to what David is saying, but the "Hard Core" A class guys just call you an old Vet and say its not a Vet track.

My opinion is that the change will never happen on a Professional Supercross track.

I used to love when they would do that for the Sunday amateur races. Instead of eliminating the third jump they just filled in the gap so you could jump the full triple with no consequences for coming up short. Late 80's/early 90's.

Not going to happen for the simple reason that dirt costs money.

And we already have this jump sequence all the time and it just turns into jumping on or off the table because it's faster than the moon shot floating through the air.

so last year remove the whoops … this year remove triples … i don’t get it? I honestly was dumbfounded when i watched it, you can’t make changes based on every single accident that happens what’s interesting about making it a single to table? Now, not having a triple that close to the start to allow the field to thin out is something that makes sense to be discussed but it was an accident, mookie is racing this weekend and justin walked out of the hospital thanks to improved safety equipment which is another reasonable topic to be discussed about that possibly could be required for riders to wear.

Yes, in fact yes.

He called me every name in the book to get out of the way while he was lapping me.

The amateur supercrosses that I raced in, they would put a kicker before the takeoff so you had to roll the takeoff jump.  That was always a bummer.  The fill-in would have been much more fun.

Yeah it seemed to be different year to year and venue to venue. I have pictures from '91 (I think?) jumping the "triples" at Texas Stadium and I wouldn't have done that without the filled in gap. I also remember doing it at the Astrodome one year but the pictures didn't turn out because of the smoke in that place. lol
