Popped off on the up ramp of a jump and locked up when I backed off
Well this was a first for me today
Geezuz...you dodged a bullet there. I've seen tires jump off rims before but never with the tube still intact with pressure.
Is that just an anomaly soft sidewall, or are you just that gnarly of a rider?
It’s a pirelli mx32 they’re soft but not as soft as some
First time it’s happened to me though in the 15 years I’ve been running them
Tyre only has maybe 5 hours in it and I run it at 15psi
Might be an old tire? Not treadwear old, but sat on the distributor's/dealer's shelf awhile old?

Broken bead or you saved some money and got the Rinaldi tires
I just picked up a set of 2025 Pirelli MX32’s few days back to put on my 23 Honda. Haven’t mounted them yet. Plan to do it today or tomorrow. Sidewalls don’t feel all that soft to me. Stiffer than previous generation MX32’s like the ones that came on 2023 Honda.
I’ve only done this once in 20 years when the bead was broke after installing the tire - forced it on.
A few years ago the wife and I came upon an old guy on the bike path, knocked out and bloodied when the front tire on his fat tire e-bike did this. While I was tending to him the tube exploded scareing the shit out of me.
Never seen it happen on an mx bike.
Probably broke the bead when mounting it.
At some point (in 2022 I think) Pirelli moved production from Brazil to Indonesia. The indo tires are heavier.
Someone needs to trim the plastic in a chain guide to keep the sprocket pretty 😁
I had that happen with a bib that was apparently too small and a trials tire at a hare scramble. I was backwards, off the trail, and parked on top of a rock before I knew what was going on. I got lucky honestly.
How long had the tire been mounted before it let go?

I had a front tyre pop off the rim. The still-inflated inner tube then ballooned out the side, jamming up against the fork leg.

What torque are your sprocket bolts?
Hmm I’ve been running rinaldi tires & have never had this happen. I’ve also got quite a few fast buddies who run them. Never heard of this happening to them.
Why would you specifically call out rinaldi on this one?
I have seen 2 tires do this in the last 6-8 months. Both Dunlop’s. Both from broken beads.
I had it happen twice with Rinaldi tires.
The first time, I figured I pushed the carcass too long and wouldnt do that again.
The second time, I high sided in a fast sweeper and decided to start using different tires.
Yeah if that happened to me I’d switch too!

Tubes.
I was running 12psi the first time the tire came off, then started doing 13-14.
IMO Seems like the Rinaldi carcass wears out before the tread, sometimes I could remove used tires without a tire lever!
Good observation. They do have a soft carcass. I’m sponsored & run new tires allll the time. I race off road mostly so tires are for sale after a good weekend. lol
I also am new to running mousses this year. still figuring those out but if they get too soft then too tires come off too.
