Hello guys,
As a fan of MX Gears/Stuff, last years I’ve been disappointed with designs. Of course there were some exceptions, but we had to deal with a lot of minimalist/simple design. Fox designs in 2000’ and 2010´ were so cool and different from other brands, but today everybody is doing the same stuff.
My first question is to ask you if you feel the same as me or you like the current « minimalist mode » ?
The second one is, if you had to create your brand, which things would you like to see on jerseys, gloves, etc ?
Thanks in advance for your answers
Just to clarify the topic title, I’m curious to see what people would like for gloves design if I had to create my own brand
All modern MX gloves are shit.
Zero protection.
I vote for leather half finger gloves.

I’m not far from buying a few pair of Harbor Freight black mechanic gloves and blowing what little MX cool I have left LOL!
I bought a pair of Moose gloves a few weeks back, made a few laps and elastic came loose from pulling on and off. 32 bucks or whatever I paid down the drain. I’d guess I could have sent them back to moose……..didn’t really want to pay 12 bucks to have them shipped.
MX gloves just don’t hold up……..all about looks.
These old Formula gloves were fantastic. More of this again, please!
Numerous glove only companies have tried, maybe you will have better luck.
I am a glove afficionado and don't find new gloves to be bad at all. They tend to last me quite a long time and I prefer to not have plastic that doesn't do anything (see above) plastered all over my gloves.
No Velcro!
I hit and hurt the knuckles on both hands in my “minimalist” Fox gloves yesterday - on my MTB. Thought of this thread instantly. And thought back to my first gloves in the ‘70’s like the Hallman pictured above…… Maybe not full leather on the MTB, but the rubber strips would have been nice!
They’ve all tried with the extra padding and “protection,” call it retro if you like, but it just isn’t selling.
The pros are focused on function: thinner, lighter, "second skin" gloves that improve feel and tactile feedback with far better breathing. This also reduces arm pump and gives a more direct connection to the bike.
The old plastic knuckle “bumpers” never offered real protection, the rock won those battles aswell, If anything, they made gloves bulky, sweat-collectors, and non-breathable. Inside-out stitching adds unnecessary material, makes fingers catch on seams (everyone remembers that feeling), and is more prone to breaking from friction in that area, if you say they did not break back in the day it means they where even thicker and more of all above issues.
If you want real hand protection, you’re far better off using proper handguards and keep your modern, minimalist gloves so you can maintain both safety and a strong connection to the bike.
I hate the minimalist gloves. Imagine if FOX came out with a remake of the Pawtector glove??? That'd be so rad! I want the little gauntlet straps back too...with the metal loop and some fabric extending up toward the wrist. The AXO glove (above) was so badass in its day! I want some finger protection back. Sorry Nate Adams but things went to shit with the introduction of the DEFT glove (and then NOVIK). Way too flimsy.
Kinda of a 'tweener on this one. I really liked the minimalist gloves from 04-08ish. The fox flexair(?) were really nice. Single layer palm, short cuff, no velcro, and the stitching actually held up pretty well. Bet I still have a pair in a Rubbermaid someplace with old memorable gear.
The new stuff from most of the major brands is awful. Gonna try something new for next year.
I have never liked big bulky gloves. The most I use are light work gloves. Been buying them from Lowe’s lately.
I ride most of the time bare handed.
I’m not tough, just not smart, either.
I want a glove that is thin and grippy between my hand and the grip, and also has protection from rocks on the outside. The protection needs to be formed such that there is no effort to grip.
The lightest work gloves are still so much more protection than current riding gloves
