respectfully disagree. CW2 was mopping the floor on the 250 in MX. Then he moved to 450 and has done nil outdoors. I predict the same for lil Deegs. He's going to become Barcia2.0 and will have good days/nights...but for the most part...will be a non-issue. Stamp it. ;-)

In my handful of years on VitalMx I can say there is a very high probability your prediction will be completely wrong. If you’re still around next summer, this one will be good to come back to. For the most part folks in here are historically terrible at predictions…Mostly because their predictions are based off emotions…and need for attention in a thread..

Deegan drives me absolutely nuts but hype is only a thing in the rear-view mirror, when you can look back on someone who didn't fulfill the hype.

Deegan has fulfilled the hype. He has multiple championships right into Pros. Let's not ignore the fact the kid is fast as anyone we've seen in over a decade.

He's a dick, though. A real dick.

You’re fighting for your life right now for a multi-millionaire factory rider who would likely blow you off if you tried to approach him on the street. Making announcements about blocking people who disagree with you just make you seem wildly insecure.

Anyway -

I was at that race, and there was a real buzz around Mike, his family, their approach to racing and his decision to make his first pro race a 450 effort.  He was on a 450 honda built by Varner I think, but I remember he was fast, but he was 16, and the Millville track is a rough one on pro day.  They had built the Holy Schmit jump in memory of Donny, and it was 105 feet coming off a short right hander after the collarbone - nasty and very few were hitting it, but Alessi was, he was 16.

He took a lot of shit from fans and other riders over the course of his career, some of it was earned, some of it not, but he always raced hard and worked hard for his sponsors.

I enjoyed watching him ride.  Hope he is doing well.

To answer the OP - Alessi hype was greater - if for no other reason than we didn't have the communication and social media we do now.

Yes, need to make the top 100 or you're a lapper.  Top 50 is really where it's at.

Cooper Webb didn’t mop the floor in the 250 class. His overall outdoor results were, 9, 3, 11, 1 respectively. If you can’t see the difference between Deegan’s 250 career and Justin Barcia or Cooper Webb’s 250 numbers you are either not looking at the results or biased.

The scoresheet barely tells the story, I’d argue Barcia had a similar amount of talent but he was often injured in outdoors and had all time competition (Tomac, Roczen, Baggett, Musquin, etc), but he could run with absolutely anybody

I got to meet Mike briefly when he stayed at ClubMX in 2016. Like most people, I had a negative perception of him and his family before he got there, all of which changed when I got to talk to him. He was extremely down to earth and very friendly to chat with. He could've been like most high profile pros and hid in his own private garage away from everyone, but he would take time out of his routine or between motos to cheer random guys on track during training sessions. I even ran into him years later when I was doing the Canadian nationals, where he remembered me by name and struck a conversation, which he was still an awesome guy to talk to. Of course he made his fair share of mistakes throughout his career but there was something about the way he carried himself, where you knew he had to live with said mistakes (would bet good money it keeps him up at night) and he kept trying to be a good person anyway.

I never met Tony personally, but I remember Brandon Haas (owner of ClubMX) spoke very highly of him. I can understand a lot of the criticism Tony has got for his questionable decisions, but for what it's worth, people should know that it was Tony who saw the potential in Cameron McAdoo while he was staying at Club and extended him rider support to turn pro. If it weren't for Tony's help, McAdoo's pro career would look wildly different or not exist at all.

Another neat character trait of Mike is how he's continued his life after his 'retirement' from pro racing. He trains as hard as he did when he was a factory rider, does a great job of representing the companies willing to support him and sets a great example to those still following him. It's safe to say the guy eats, sleeps and breathes everything with the purpose of bettering himself as a rider. No social media drama, just a guy who loves the sport.

Meanwhile the Deegans, specifically Brian, will nonchalantly throw shade at them, while the irony is lost on them that they've become more insufferable people than the Alessi family ever was.

I’m not sure I have seen this much hype behind a rider moving from the lites class to the premier class since Mike Alessi did his “Believe the hype” campaign when he was moving up. We all see how he faced reality when he saw how different things are in the 450 class so, this is a two part question.

1) Whose hype is bigger

2) What’s your opinion on how danger boy is actually going to fair his first year

Personally I think Mike made a bigger deal about moving up and created a lot of anticipation and loved he made those funny T Shirts.

I think Deegan will have some success to include maybe winning a round of SX and a round or two of MX but I see him as a top 5-8 guy on races he doesn’t crash out of.

What is the "lites class"? And by "how danger boy is actually going to fair his first year" do you mean go to the fair? Or do you mean how well will he do (fare)?

I blocked you just now to get a screenshot to show you what it does. It just collapses their comment so you don't see it. At the rate he's going, the guy's threads are going to be mainly all blocked outside of the 5 Deegan shit posters that haven't gotten the hint yet. He's creating a hugbox.
