Real bad now lack of loads record bankruptcy, wages are cut 40% . Co.s are operating off millions in loans they dont actually make anything. Sales people loosing there jobs. Thanks for the kind words TM. Maybe you headed him in a better direction as he was barking up the wrong tree. I don't have strong opinions on a lot of things but I have done my homework when it comes to macro econ 101. What I know and believe did not come from politicians or cable news.
Most of us approve using tariffs to help level trade imbalances. Where we diverge is Trump’s approach, which lacks specificity and changes frequently. This creates long term strategy and investment challenges that override short term gains. If the WH would simply define the rationale and make tariff application less about retribution then we could benefit from the revenue uplift and allow foreign and domestic enterprises to plan accordingly. And look less like he’s pulling the numbers out of his ass.

While I didn't single out Canada, they also tariff us heavily. Have you ever manufactured anything and shipped goods to Canada? What I can tell you, Canada doesn't seem to even know their own guidelines for what they tariff.

No, but had to in this case. Since you could not verify or would not believe any personal experiences so I asked for an example. I used to design industrial automation equipment. It was a big chunk of change that went straight to the Canadian gvmt. My most recent interaction with a customer that was sent something, got miscoded, he told me someone coded it as "raw steel" and your government wanted a 25% tariff. Their answer, pay the tariff and dispute it, probably get a refund in 3 months. Now in addition to that, I'm not sure the technical difference between a tariff and duty tax. But not so funny story of how fu@ked up the Canadian gvmt is.
My Mom and Dad bought a condo in North Vancouver. Mom and Dad drove up one time with drapes for the windows. At the border, they were asked "anything to declare?" Nope. Off to secondary inspection. Upon finding the drapes, they literally arrested my Mom and Dad and impounded the car. The law was, you were allowed to bring in furnishings for up to one year duty free to furnish your place. Did the officer listen? Fu@k no. Cost them many thousands of $$s and being arrested for the better part of the day. The attorney told them they could get their fines back but it would cost thousands in attorney fees to do it, probably a wash. So, they paid and decided not to fight it.

Put the correct harmonized code, the correct description, cost and country of origin on the Commercial Invoice, if the customs broker submits the wrong details, their invoice can be disputed, once it's submitted to customs, it's difficult to recover the tariff for all countries.
I ship things regularly, suppliers and customers ship goods to me regularly. When goods come into the country, my customs broker contacts me to confirm shipment details, they are often incorrect and are corrected before submitting the documents to customs.
What your parents did wrong was not declaring the drapes, the same thing applies for all countries, declare the goods, even if they are duty free, Canadian Customs followed procedure, US Customs would do the same thing.

You obviously have never been a parent so I'll let you in on a little secret. If your kid does something bad and you give them a swat on the ass, if they do something bad tomorrow, you can give them another swat on the ass. If your watch is valued over $800 it should be declared, Customs will ask you if it is a personal item, and may require a declaration it will not be sold or gifted while in the country.

The 25% tariff Canada imposes on US steel is a recent tariff, in retaliation to the tariffs Trump imposed on Canadian goods, prior to "Liberation Day" there were no tariffs on US steel.
It sounds like you haven't been involved in preparing commercial documents, or dealing with customs brokers or customs.

But you need to declare it if you travel to Canada.
I guess we know who's afraid to discipline their kids. And who makes the rules in some people's homes. I once told my mother to shut up when I was 14 years old. My father grabbed me by the neck pushed me against the wall “and said don’t ever fucking tell your mother to shut up”.
Two lessons learned that day. Don’t fuck with the old man, and I found the line. Some kids (myself included) simply push back harder than others, and others push back further than me. Did my father do wrong? He raised me with respect and manners, but that was the line.
You are right there are options. But those only last as long as the child is willing to engage. Parents have limits as well and it is there duty to love and raise the lie children to the best capabilities they have. Swats, firm lines are all good for children to understand boundaries. Without someone stroking them no, they will go through life believing they can do what they want. IE, change names, sexes, all in temporary feelings
