A customers mother had a house that was right on the edge of 2 different power companies territories. They always had power, tried for 2 years to pay the bill after moving in. Had the power companies come out and both said neither was hooked up to the house. After a few years or so, they started to run everything off of electricity. Heat, hot water, etc. They didn't get a bill until 27 or so years later. It was a good amount of money and the electric co threatened to take their house. They ended up being able to agree on a discounted payment plan . This was a very long time ago. The customer is in his 70's , so back when computers were not being used as much. Maybe before computers. I heard the story too long ago to try and remember many more specifics
I had RI. lose a speeding ticket for over 20 years and it just caught up with me the last time I went to renew my Lic. At the time I had heard on the radio that RI. was dropping some of the lower dollar amount fines because they were so backed up that it would take them more than 20 years to get through all of them. So I just assumed that was the case after I made a half assed attempt to follow up on the ticket I mailed in to get a court date. They said normally I would have to go through the entire process of getting my drivers lic in RI from the start. Get a permit, all the tests etc. But because they were really backed up I could write a check for an extra $140 and skip all of that stuff. I paid them and finished renewing my MA lic. on the ride home online. I didn't really want to argue , I tried explaining my thoughts and they said I should have tried harder to follow up and could no longer try and fight it, and either pay or never renew my Lic again. I really did not want to try and fight it anymore since so much time had passed that the points I got from it had already gone away. And any real form of fighting it would have cost more than just paying the fees.
I've never had any loans get lost, and those 2 examples ended up being caught so long after. I personally would try and have some sort of paper trail before I relaxed and just waited. Something saying that You really did make an attempt to contact them. In the case of my ticket, I had no proof that I ever mailed it in since they said they never got it. And I didn't have any receipt or proof I had made any attempts to pay or fight the ticket. I'm sure it will catch up with you at some point, so just try and have enough proof that You tried to fix the issue that they will hopefully work with you and not report it to Your credit or repo the bike.
You can get your answer in less than 30 seconds if you call the Dealer . All they need to do is get in their DealerTrack or RouteOne and check the status of your loan . This is my screen from this morning. They can then click on the “contract complete” or “Contract in transit” and it’ll give them a minute by minute progression of your loan . For F***** sake , this isn’t rocket science. Call those asshats

Oh --- and if they CAN"T give you info from their system, it most likely means that the original Lender rejected the paperwork or never received it and the Dealer is panicking trying to find another lender to buy your loan . Its the only reason I can fathom that you haven't got direct paperwork from the original lender AND that the dealer hasn't called to get the bike back.
In fact , a lot of Dealers have gone to E-contracting and/or E-funding . Apparently your Dealer doesn't have either of those , but the fully electronic deals take the USPS/UPS/FedEX follies out of the picture.
If you read my post I did call the dealer. They told me they had the same paperwork that I had.
UPDATE: Still nothing from the bank and there is nothing on my credit report that would relate to the bike purchase.
So far, I got a free bike but I'm sure they will catch on eventually maybe??,,
Very strange. You’d think that if you don’t have a loan that the dealer didn’t get paid. In that case you’d expect that they’d want the bike back or, more likely given that the bike has depreciated, they’d want payment so would working hard to sort this out. The dealer’s attitude towards this doesn’t make sense to me.
I'd agree so the dealer must have gotten paid or I'd heard from them.
Earlier you posted that there was a “hard inquiry”on your credit bureau — now you claim there’s nothing on your credit report . Which is it ?
Also , you state that their “paperwork “ is the same as yours, of course it would be ,lol . Contracts are always at least triplicate or even 4 or 5 copies and everyone gets their own copies (Buyer, dealer, lender and sometimes the 3rd party warranty company or GAP insurance holder . It’s been 3 months now? If no bank placed a lien on the bike as you’re suggesting, then you’d have the title by now , so have you received it from the State ? If so, then someone at the store ROYALLY fucked up and you may free and clear . Although I’m a big believer in Karma and I’d certainly want to get it straightened out before I’d think about racing that bitch . But that’s just me 😂.
Oh and as an FYI, I do read pretty fucking good.
I think he said he was in a no title state.
If the dealer "got paid" and the bank never charges you, are you going to call the bank and inform them? Or just remain quiet and steal it? Because lets be real... that's what you are doing by knowingly not paying for it. How is this even a thread? Are you just asking our permission to steal?
My worthless truthful $0.02
There is a hard inquiry dated about then but I meant was there's nothing as to the loan. I also bought furniture using the same finance company in that time frame so it could be from that. When I inquired at the dealer, they had the same generic paperwork that I did. They did the paperwork and submitted for payment from finance I just thought that a month later they would have something more specific which they didnt.
Correct. Non road worth motorcycles are certificate only.
What are you talking about? Who does he send the check to? And what do you think the bank is going to do with it without an account to attach it to? How do you know the loan wasn't sold and that bank already got paid?
Sure you make good faith effort to resolve this but there's no moral dilemma here if that all leads to dead ends and nobody asking you to pay them.
Is this a high volume dealer by any chance? Sounds to me like they dropped the ball and never actually followed through on the financing.
Ice Cube as Craig in the movie…Friday…
“You LUCKY!”
Again, if you would have read, I have called the finance company three times. They have zero on me for a motorcycle purchase and THEY told me if there is no account then there is nothing they can see or do. My furniture account shows up. I'm not stealing the bike. Payment slip come I'll pay it tomorrow but I can't make the bank take a payment for an account that does not exist. I've done my due diligence. If it doesn't show on my credit report the it won't show up at the finance company.
They aren't nothing big. Very small shop. Only sold dirt bikes.
Pit Row
I was going to say this. I’ll add that the suggestion that he not race the bike is ridiculous. Why should he be penalized for someone else’s failure to execute a rather simple transaction?
Just make sure to document every effort you make to resolve this.
I didn't see that post about not racing it which seems ridiculous. If they finally figure it out, they don't care about where the bike has been but only where is their money.
I could be wrong here, but I think that he was referring to the Karma that could come “while you’re racing” it ?
** I don’t believe in Karma, but I do believe in the “what goes around, comes around” saying.
Seems like you’ve done what you can do, but just be prepared to pay for it eventually…
People just like to argue. Its what they do. So, like 15 years ago when I was just 18, I took a loan out through a quick loan place. They allowed me to take the highest loan which was like $2500. The lady was telling me about how it was her last day and she couldn't wait to start her new job. Everything went fine with the loan, she gave me a payment date put in my checking account number for auto pay. Like 2 months go by and I noticed I was not charged for this loan yet. I was confused as to why I didnt get a phone call, I called in to make the payments since I wasnt charged and they said they had no record of me taking a loan. I told them that I for sure took out a loan and I would like to start paying on it and I was told without record, they cannot take my money. They said they would look into it and call me back, a couple weeks later, I call them again, still with no record of the loan. They said to not worry about it until I hear back from them. I never heard back, there has never been anything on my credit for it and it was basically free money due to some error beyond me. I did nothing wrong. I did my part. If they came to me about it, I wouldve paid it. If they called me tomorrow, I would pay it. If there is nothing you can do and you've done it all, the only thing you can do is live your life and not worry about it until it comes back to you.
Keep clear , easy to read , detailed records of every attempt made to contact the dealer and finance company. Open an escrow account, and put the exact payment in the account every month, on the date that it is due, or earlier. If and when they come knocking on your door, you show them your attempted contact details with day, date, and times. Then you show your bank records proving that you have deposited the payment every month. This will absolve you late fees and even fraud charges if they decide to go that route.
"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth". Or something to that affect.
Exactly. I’m just a guy that believes in doing the right thing at all times. Anytime you think you “got away” with something in a somewhat nefarious manner it has a habit of biting you in the ass twice as hard . Anyone on here familiar with the Greek legend of the Sword of Damocles ?
Also, I’m viewing this from a completely different perspective. As a business owner specializing in finance ( particularly 3rd party paper) there is absolutely zero chance that the OP has done everything in his power to rectify this situation. Yes, it appears that the F&I department at the dealership may have dropped the ball in a horrifying manner, but that certainly doesn’t mean the customer “wins” a free ride. Certainly not the way we live our lives or how we raised our daughter. However , I do realize that not everyone lives by the same rules .
Being in that biz for 40 years, I could get to the bottom of the situation, and straighten it out inside of an hour . I’ve suggested to the OP how to resolve his “problem “ in prior posts.
Banking error in your favour. Continue to go and collect $200
But its the same as a title for paperwork sake. The send that Certificate of Origin in the mail when the loan is paid off. Did you get the Certificate of Origin Yet? If you have it they like someone above said, someone fucked up.
I'm really sorry that I don't meet your level of ethics and standards. I never tried to get a free bike nor do I think I got a free bike. II am confident that I will get a call or letter one day. I've spoke to the dealership, I've spoke to finance 3 different times. They can't take a payment on an account that doesn't exist regardless of what info that I provide them. It's not on my credit report. I could take a picture of it and send it to them but they could care less.
I really don't know what else I can do. Maybe call finance once a week. "Hey, its me again"!
At some point. It's not my problem and I'm at that point.
The dealership keeps the certificate and once its paid off if I call them they will mail it to me. She did say not that many ask for it when paid off.
The comments about the rules you live by and how you raised your daughter are really uncharitable and if they were directed at me - implying that I don’t live by the same rules as you, calling my character and integrity into question - I’d be pissed. The guy appears to be trying - he hasn’t found the financing guru who can resolve the matter in 30 minutes. You advised him to contact the dealer. He’s did that. He contacted the lender multiple times. Doesn’t sound like a scam artist to me and probably doesn’t deserve to be called one.
