I took Luke’s post to be saying he doesn’t care who’s in charge of reporting labor statistics, not that he doesn’t care about labor statistics (e.g. he’d be as concerned as anyone if unemployment skyrocketed).
Apparently, Trump cares about who’s in charge of labor statistics. Sounds a bit like blaming the messenger. I wonder what, if any, evidence there is that she did a bad job.
Well that’s how I took it as well. My point in posting what did, is to show that it’s an extremely important job because it can affect the economy and various other things if the reporting is not accurate.

In this case I will back up Trump's decision, there have been multiple threads on it over the past few years but the level of "revisions" that needed to be done to the initially reported jobs numbers were almost comical. Essentially the labor statistics would be reported, the market would react, then months later when the real data came in (rather than the predictions that were used in the initial reporting) the changes would be so astronomical that they painted an entirely different economic picture than what was initially reported. By this time the media and market had long since moved on though, and it was largely ignored.
Now, whether this was intentional or whether this was just pure incompetence is up for debate. The more cynical among us (myself included) believed that these number were intentionally misreported initially to show a stronger economy than what truly existed, but that's pure speculation.

If the numbers were falsified, and the head was sacked, the markets will lose confidence in the historical numbers, confidence will need to be rebuilt for trust in future numbers.
If the numbers were accurate, and the head was sacked for political reasons, the markets will lose confidence in future numbers.
Either way the markets will not be happy.
