The Ferrandis and Marvin years were pretty rough for both of them at least

I remember Marvin be very popular here. Now Ferrandis is a different story and wasn’t very well received because he was labeled a dirty rider and rightfully so.

I was actually surprised when I read that he was 7th in points. The defending world champs average moto finish is 11.25 in the outdoors which is his bread and butter. First year or not he should’ve been up there in the JCoop and AP7 battle at the least. If you said he had an average finish of 11.25 and we weren’t talking about the outdoor series, I’d think you’d be talking about his average finish in SX.

Exactly — it’s out of character. A multi-time world champion doesn’t just forget how to ride. And as much as some people here would love to believe it, the U.S. riders haven’t suddenly gotten so fast that Prado can’t hang. Something’s clearly off.

To be fair, Prado’s told us what it is: the bike. And let’s be real — if that’s not the issue, then he’s either incredibly bold or incredibly dumb to throw his own team under the bus without cause.

If our reigning outdoor champ (Sexton) went to race the MXGPs on a different bike and was doing what Prados been doing all season over there, I’d be shitting on him too. I wouldn’t say it’s out of character, I’d be thinking what’s going on between his head. I get that the bike can be an issue, but with who he is I still think he should’ve been battling with JCoop and AP7 with a shit bike. I thought he was going to be a top 5 guy outdoors easily and challenge Jett outdoors next year. Definitely didn’t expect him to bring a big ass bag of excuses with him from Europe.

21 pages and we’ve got:

The bike is no good

Lack of fitness

AMA is too fast

Girlfriend issues

Not used to food, culture, tracks, single day program

Given up and going home to GP’s

And not a scrap of solid info.

After 21pages I'm convinced it's the girlfriend. She's sabotaging his bike then going between Prado and the Team telling each side that the the others is badmouthing them.

Lock it in. Mystery solved.

We have solid info, Prado is not comfortable enough to push 100% yet. He’s said just that himself.

It’s just some of the race fans can’t accept it.

A lot of the criticism toward Jorge's performance seems to go beyond racing. It's not the first time we see riders from non-English or non-Germanic language backgrounds getting disproportionately picked apart. Riders who speak Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French) often face a different kind of scrutiny. Countries like Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, I might add Japan, with Jo in mind, their riders are frequently framed through a more critical or dismissive lens compared to those from English-speaking or Germanic-language nations like the U.S., U.K., Germany, or the Netherlands. There's this unspoken gatekeeping from some American and European circles that favors certain profiles at the top.

English is a Germanic language.

IMG 3333 4

English is a West Germanic language that developed in early medieval England and has since become a global lingua franca.[4][5][6]The namesake of the language is the Angles, one of the Germanic peoples that migrated to Britain after its Roman occupiers left. English is the most spoken language in the world, primarily due to the global influences of the former British Empire (succeeded by the Commonwealth of Nations) and the United States.[7] English is the third-most spoken native language after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish;[8] it is also the most widely learned second language in the world, with more second-language speakers than native speakers.”

Every group of people has assholes. I think Marvs approval rating would be well into the 90% range.

So what your pointing out is, its not a single big thing but a combination of small things combining to make a big thing. Im not sure if you knew you were pointing that out but its a great observation......

I’m not sure if you’ve ever ridden an mx bike, I’m guessing many of Prado’s critics are professional spectator sx doughnut munchers, but if you have ever raced mx you may have found yourself on a sketchy set up once or twice.

Yes you can push on anything but the chance of wrecking yourself on a sketchy set up are much higher.

When a situation has gone off the rails as far as this one it’s rarely just a single root cause.

Originally I was just wanting to make a somewhat sarcastic post summarising everything in this thread but as I was writing it occurred to me that it probably is a multitude of things.

As demonstrated in this thread if you take just one of those points and assign 100% or even a large majority of the blame it becomes hard to argue how that can account for the entire situation.  It also helps to explain why neither Prado nor Kawasaki have been really able to articulate very well what is going on in any short form interviews.

"A few assholes" really downplays the hate that Marv got for a couple of years. It was pretty out of hand. Same with Ferrandis but I think he got the fans on his side with his ridiculous rides and a 450 championship. Either way, the hat they got was from more than just a few idiots, entire stadiums booed them.

What’s he pushing those first 4 or so laps at Shoug? Looks like he was pushing pretty hard and his bike didn’t look all that bad til he ran out of sprint speed it seems.   Mystery…

I think the key to success at mx is being relaxed while being fast. It’s possible to be flat out on a 450 in rough conditions while hardly holding on once you are at one with the bike.

When your not at one, doubts creep in & tension will cause arm pull & early fatigue.

You can of course try push through & on smaller bikes prob easier, but a classy 450 rider like Prado will likely see the risk reward balance in favour of backing off.

You gotta remember the Hondas & chase don’t stay static, they are always improving too, so Prado has a lot of work to do to catch up if it’s even possible with this team.

One a side note: after watching The Czech GP…& other riders having a “good time” on the KX?

I’m simply over worrying about George.

The time off should let everyone exhale a bit and refocus.

I was watching MXGP of Czech Republic yesterday and JT mentioned that Conen's bike was at 700 RPM. Obvious a joke but leads me to understand what Prado means by power. The KTM in MXGP seems to be a monster. We all know that depending on what gear you're in and where in the power affects how your suspension moves across the ground especially the rear swing arm. Harder on the gas tends to bind up the rear swing arm. MXGP guys also tend to run their suspension softer from what I've seen and heard.

A good way to show that is hitting a rough section in 2nd gear on the gas, vs hitting a section in 3rd on the gas. If the KTM in MXGP can hit everything at such a low RPM, it lets the suspension soak up and absorb everything and give him the torque to pop out or over stuff. Like Jett Lawrence being in such a low RPM. If he's trying to ride it like his old KTM its understandable him missing the power or struggling without it, and how the bike could be beating him up viciously throughout the moto with the bike bound up. Then him fading late because hes just getting absolutely abused the entire time, then add everything else. In short a cycle. Kawi missing power and torque low so bike can't flow like he wants doesn't soak up suspension wise, forced to drop gear for power, bike binds up, beating him up. Rinse repeat. Factory Kawi has thought of this though.

Obviously this doesn't excuse Prado seemingly giving up the race a few times, he's an amazing rider and is probably trying to work through it and frustrated. A lot of people have grilled him for his interviews but his last one with Lewis he complimented the team greatly and recognized how hard they are all working multiple times. They'll get it and figure it out, I don't have doubts about that.

Just some paragraphs of 2 cents from a slow not factory suspension guy.

100% agree with you.

Listening to Jmart on Gypsy yesterday and he said he got great advice from RV back in the day. Get the bike predictable and make it work, no bike is perfect, champions get it done no matter what.

Many have said that in here already. Jorge needs to get in the right head space and make it work.
