I have no idea what kind of budget is involved with the ICE operation. If it was me I'd think I would deport any illegal with a criminal record. No questions asked. Then with the resources they seem to have I think I would set up stations through the country and maybe give the "law" abiding illegals some sort of timeline to check in and start a process to become legal. If they don't comply in that timeline they are deported. Secure the border and let's move on. That's a stupid simple way of a complicated problem but about what I would try.

I'll say my 2-step plan again, because it seems like a perfectly acceptable and reasonable solution, but nobody in power has ever thought to implement it:
1) Make immigration faster, easier, less expensive (or free,) and welcome one and all to the melting pot which is and should be American society. All who wish to become citizens may come in, get a Social Security number, and start contributing.
2) Deport anyone who remains without legal justification, swiftly and immediately.
You know, if you ask me, law enforcement officers should be made to wear some sort of uniform and carry some form of identification that so that these mixups don't happen. Don't you think so?

Wasn't too long ago a bunch of Liberals with semi autos got arrested for trying to hunt down ICE Agents.
