Is it because of Supercross and the short races - the start is so important there that they practice them more?
MA was far from our best, or even one of our better starters this year. Also keep in mind the US riders had the best gate picks for the final motos.

Honestly I think it's because of the racing style here in the states. To get out of the gate as quick as possible and hammer as hard as you can. Put a small gap on the guys behind you until you get comfortable....then set into a good race pace.

Starts are really important , but so is everything else that follows right after wards as well. Going 100% out of the gate until you get top the front.

So many other variables to think about it's crazy.

They tend to favor more aggressive power curves which make for an advantage in a straight drag-race style situation as well.

Mentally prepared better than anyone else. That's my opinion.

I think you are right there, when it comes to the nations the USA are the best prepared in every way... add in the confidence of winning regularly.. maybe they expect to win and the others hope to win/ holeshot.

All amateur races in the US now are like 4-5 lap sprints. If you don't get a good start, your screwed. All the top US pro riders grew up racing these amateur races, so its what they have had drilled into their heads since day one.

McCread IMO..
Starts are very important at any level of the sport, regardless of how long the race is,it goes with the territory and is a big part of the race. Wink
We are taught here as amateurs/young children here in the States that starts are very important.
And yes practicing starts will pay off.
Think of it this way,if you have several guys that are all pretty much the same speed that are turning close lap times consistently, the start is what can/will separate those riders.

It's because of the red bull, monster, rockstar cocktails served up to each rider before the motos.

There's a little NHRA in every racer.

,...because they have spend the last few years trying to catch Alessi and Short on the starts. It has made our guys better.

I would have to agree. A lot of motocross is mental. I think it goes for racing as well as starts. The MXON is an example. The Americans knew they were the ones to beat. The Euros felt they had to beat them and some of the crashed doing it. It would seem that BT rode over his head to prove it and now crashed and hurt himself. The Americans problably just think, don't ride over your head and we will win the overall. The Euros probably though we have to beat the Americans. Even Cairoli when trying to keep up with Dungey cased a jump and hurt his ankle. But I must say that being better is being better mentally prepared, and the American are better all the way around.

I know you can't be serious; however, to play along, are any of the items listed below some of the "everything" you're referring to?

Insecurity
Obesity
Gun related deaths
Belief in WMDs

That's all that comes to mind immediately and in the time available, apart from some suggestions of religious hypocrisy, but I won't go there.

That said; leading up to the MXdN it was abundantly clear (to me at least) that America had the best team - on many levels. The result was no surprise. The best team won.

As for the above list, I think Australia may be challenging the U.S. in the obesity race. Hell, if we're not fatter than you (yet) at least we're better beer drinkers.

Maybe they were succesfulo this year, as at all MXDN's because the FIM allows them to use race gas, ignores noise limits, and ran at a track at an altitude only they were prepared for.

It suits Youthstream to have the USA win every year, it's the only way to keep Americans interested in World MX, and keeps their foot in the door for taking over the Nationals, they will get there, the sooner the better then maybe GP's can get back to racing on GP tracks!!!!

Sure would be nice to see them bust open 100 crates on race day and put gas in them and the best man wins. Everyone gets the same box stock bike.
And everyone will be in the ER all busted up from trying the big hits with stock suspension. Yeah, that's a really good idea!
