It sure looked like Dungey was just cruising around out there at a very easy pace from what I could see from a fuzzy image on my computer screen . . Did it look the same in person ?

He just looks that way. Just about the time you think "he's not that fast" you realize he is. Nothing flashy. Just fast.

I don't think anyone has seen what Dungey can really do if he needs to.

Shorty actually had to wave him around in the last moto, it was kinda funny because

Ryan was just kind of following him around - defending the rear as it was, while

Andrew was on the gas - once that Ryan finally acknowledged - and accepted

the offer to pass - he did so then sped off with a grace and fluidity I haven't seen since JMB

was dancing with the stars.

If I had to use one word to describe his style, it'd be methodical.

Not frantic or flashy, but he's good at reeling people in and picking when and where he wants to go by. Some people were spooked by how many laps he sat behind Jonathan Barragan on Saturday (five), but it just took him a single lap to dispatch him on Sunday.

Super smooth and in control would describe Dungey. Not much "sketchiness" in his style.Smile

My brother-in-law brought along this chick that had never been to a pro MX event before. During the first moto Sunday she asked me "How is he leading? He looks so slow compared to the other guys; like he's not even trying"

He was smooth alright. Especially from up in the hills trying to get a view.

Not the most exciting riding style, but it was super effective. I wasn't much of a Dungey fan before Sunday, but the kid did real good and has a good head on his shoulders. I'm warming up to him pretty quick.

There was a couple a times he messed up, but for the most part smooth and in control. I saw Shorty wave him past in the air over a jump.

I have a whole new level of respect for Dungey after this weekend. That track was brutally rough at the end of the 3rd moto and Dungey made it look easy.

Parts of that track were really rough. I hope they keep that layout for the national next year.

What was odd about that, was that at the top of the triple-uphill Short started looking

over at him as if to say " Go on then" and Ryan wouldn't take it, Shortey had to look

over a couple more times and actually wave before Ryan graciously accepted the

invite to party upfront.

* Same thing happened to me at a steamy disco club in Sardinia one time.

That uphill after the step up (below the Vickery tent) made my shoulders and arms sore just looking at it. I'm glad I'm only a bench racer any more!

I wonder if Cairoli still thinks some MX2 guys are faster than Dungey. I doubt it.

If he does - that means that they must be faster than him too.

Dungey is a lot like Pourcel that way. Lots of guys look like they are going faster then them based on aggression alone.

Dungey got the starts he needed to do well. I was impressed with his performance however if he had missed the start he would have been done.

Dungey has the best racecraft I think I ever saw. He rides a good but unspectacular pace until he senses a weakness in a competitor, then he surges for a few laps and the next thing you know, that competitor is 4 seconds behind and as good as dead. He doesn't kill the rest of the field with Stewart speed, he pressures them until they show a little crack, and then he breaks their hearts.

My "pit insiders" said, on Saturday afternoon, Dungey was a "bit difficult" to be around after the so-so results.

Ha. Yeah, he likes to win.

He doesn't look crazy fast, he just is. He seems to be able to run whatever speed necessary to get the job done.

IMO, the fastest "looking" riders were Wilson, Canard, Roczen and Townley. Barragon, Ramon, DeSalle and Dungey don't look fast, but the stopwatch doesn't lie.

I got a sweet video of the leaders headed up that hill to the top of the track. Insane hill, looked really fun. Townley was killing it up that hill in the last moto, trying to chase down 1 and 3.

sounds exactly like the way roger d used to ride...not "exciting" or "flashy" but then you realize he is and wish you could watch more of it...but by then it's too late. Yup...just like roger d and how much of a badass he was.
