Pretty insane to be almost 40, get burnt this badly be almost half a lap down, completely out of any championship contention and get up to tenth place. Majority of other riders would have pulled into the pits immediately after this happened.
Interview from around 4:05
It was the first moto that happened and he finished 23rd. The 10th place was in the second moto. Still gnarly to race after that nonetheless.
Props to the rider who turned around on the track to get the bike off Tony
They said that was Marshal Weltin that did that.
I know one thing, in the past few years I've become a huge fan of Caroli. Ive went back and watched a lot of his prime years of racing and winning. The guy is incredible. And to think he's still at it in a way, is just a bonus for his fans. He really shows a love for this sport, and he's so Not about the money he's earned. He's a diehard motocross dude!!!

I WAS WONDERING WTH HAPPENED FOR HIM TO GET BURNED THAT BADLY
From Cairoli's Instagram story:
Weltonis a true champion for helping out another rider. Love seeing shit like that. If it was on the broadcast I missed it.
Pretty badass of Caroli to get 10th after that incident with no real reason to fight except for that’s the type of guy he is.
39 years old to get back on the bike and charge to 23 is unreal. Heart of a champ no doubt about it. Welton is a class act for doing what he did.
At some point we are all Moto brothers that help each other out in hard times
We sat on the hillside yesterday, and as Jett lapped him he turned around over the finish and waved him on. AC threw a thumbs up and charged with him for a lap or two and caught soooo many people off guard making lots of passes.
Whoops lol got the motos confused. Although that may be more impressive being that he raced on it the second moto when all the adrenaline was worn off by then.
You could see Weltin going back to help 222 during the race broadcast… good on him👍 222 is legend….
I realise that being 'the guy' in the GPs naturally invites heat from US fans but Cairoli was a little misunderstood and unfairly misrepresented by Americans at the height of his success, which was a shame.
Pre Ass burn!! Was pumped to meet Tony!
Dude is a legend and a stud. I am becoming more and more a fan of his.
Cairoli is one of those rare guys you must see perform in person to fully get his gift - yes, he has the grit and determination, and skill needed to be the champion he is but one cannot fully explain Cairoli until you see him craft his way around a track at race pace. The nuance actions that add up to tenths and then seconds and then championships - remarkable. He has "it"
I'm glad I saw him the few times I did. Legend is a word that gets too easily tossed around but Tony is indeed that in our sport, and I do not know anything about him outside of moto however I'll bet his solid character carries over to every facet of his life.
Hes not pretty badass on the bike, but hes an intelligent guy too.
Some years ago I remember at MXGP Loket lost his life young racer and Cairoli was first who raced next day with black armband. Hats off.
