Up until this year I wouldn't have thought any brand more or less susceptible to mechanicals than any other.
Now, if two Star Yamaha's are in MXdN I will not be surprised if one has a mechanical in one race, and that is concerning.
June 22nd Oak Hill finally had an open practice day on it's national track. Only one so far in 2025 not preceding a race weekend. So they are rare since Kyle Cunningham and another guy are holding training weeks out there amongst other events.
Josh Cartwright was out there and he and some guy on Yamaha were pushing pretty hard. Possibly Harlan since it was the week off and the week before Southwick and Oak Hill is moslty sand. Anyway, they were probably the fastest 2 out there that day so I'm watching them run some laps when the rider in front of Carpenter on the Yamaha has his motor let go. Smoke explodes out of it for about 2-3 seconds is all and it locks up. That was it, and it took 3 guys to push it all the way back up from the back section of the track all the way to the pits.
Point is for me, I don't watch to many engines let go at "practice" weekends at the tracks here, but I've witnessed 2 in the last couple years and both were Yamaha's.
I've seen more Yamaha's go blow this season in the Nationals than any other brand. And I'll stand by what my engine builder has said directly to me as well. I don't trust the latest version of the "blue" bike not costing more to own because of the engine.

Eli is the man. Grabbing a water from a fan and not completely pouting, throwing his bike on the ground
I've watched AC&JB, RC&RV, and a couple other podcasts or whatever you call them. They all only mention Eli's bike. I think one glazed over Webb's, but didn't really talk about it. Definitely didn't talk about all the other bikes we listed here in this post. I would have thought they'd know about them more than us. Just found it interesting.
Matthes talked about it on the Pulp show, he basically blamed Eli even though that bike was smoking ten minutes into the race. Not really surprising seeing as Steve is sponsored by Yamaha but I thought it was comical. Phil wasn’t buying it, though.
Eli was eating tons of roost so radiators getting hammered in those sandy conditions and it was a cooker. With how hard Eli is on the clutch all them factors generate heat which will eventually make the engine detonate push coolant and go boom. Webbs bike ran out of fuel. Believe they said this was the longest moto of the year around 36-38 minutes on pulp.
Mx6 Yamahas have blown up multiple engines this year even with there oversized rads so i dont think a cooling issue is there problem. Triumph also blew a bike up with forkner.
I don't think the seat is bright enough
Lot's of clutching trying to get lined up with the long ruts. That's my theory.
