I am not sure if this is already posted. But the broadcast didn't see it or kind of notice that the exact same thing was happening with Mosimans bike moto 1.
Watch it back. you can see that the smoke starts on mosimans. starts losing spots than pulls out.
Surely it was the same problem
Webb already had a dnf this year too. Maybe theyre pushing the engines a little too close to the edge this year? The yamahas are normally bullet proof.
Most likely wound up the tune to compensate for the altitude, but took it a little too far.
At least they know where the limit is now.
But wait I thought it was Deegan's fault for his motor going south...
Happened to Shimoda’s bike, too. It’s not smoke, it’s steam from the overflow due to boiling coolant.

Lots of bikes were overheating yesterday
Elevation + unusually high engine load due to wet conditions. So, not particularly surprising to see overheating issues.
He said in the press conference the team told him it was him and then said it wasn’t so he wasn’t sure. There was other Star bikes out there that didn’t have problems. Might have to do with pushing the limits of the engine and riding style.
I posted this on the other Deegan thread. An important skill of a rider at their level is taking care of the bike at the level they ask of it. For example…not burning out a clutch ect… some riders notoriously use the clutch more and occasionally burn it out. Even if it were a Yamaha thing, which I don’t agree with, then it is just like any strength or weakness of your bike. You ride to accommodate it. Nobody has been saying the reason Deegan has been winning is because the bike is faster, a strength of the bike, then other 250s…so I don’t then say the reason he lost a weaker point of the bike.
I think it is unfair to say something like “Deegan would have except for the bike.” His bike is as meticulously maintained and as durable as a bike can be built. The odds of a mechanical failure without rider causing it is much slimmer then a rider caused mechanical failure. The odds that Chance took better care of his bike while Haiden asked/rode the bike so hard that he essentially caused the failure is much higher. Chance pushed him, while taking better care of his bike, to break his bike by how he rode it. That was as important as any other rider technique that gets you a win. In other words I don’t feel you can use an excuse of blaming the bike.
Chance pushing Deegan so hard he breaks the bike is basically no different then pushing a rider so hard he crashes.

Yep should of went bigger on the main jet.
Too much timing and not enough cooling. They should run fans or oil coolers at that altitude.
Star bikes didn’t seem to have the power advantage they usually have there.
i think Deegan was smart to back off and save it, and amazing he still got 2nd in the moto , if Tomac would have done that at Loretta's in one moto he would be a 5 time outdoor champ,
Makes you wonder if the mechanical water pumps may have been better in the situation. I’m curious if the electric ones pump as much?
You are 100% correct. Every time we saw Deegan in that moto he was dumping the clutch making a mistake, correcting it and dumping again. He was riding how he rides to take down Chances win and keep his streak. Chance was just to fluid and good this weekend. When Deegan wanted more (speed and bike) it took its toll on the bike, Would of taken a toll on him if he wasn't so fit. He was on the edge. So I guess shit happens when you're trying that hard.
I still think they changed something for the weekend that didn't work for the way he was riding.
The kid kid is in crazy shape to ride with that aggression every lap. But man was chance on it. Deegan was getting flamed on instagram on comments and his response was his bike wasn’t up to the task to go that fast/faster. So do we see deegan on a Honda next year since it holds up at that speed? (Joking of course).
