I know it's not a Ford, but you may want to look at Nissan. I have heard that you can basically name a price on new vehicles. Corporate Nissan is incentivizing sales, not sale price, is what I heard. I know they used to have the Titan diesel, with a Cummins, but that may be a bust in California with diesel prices.

Well shit...I guess they don't make the Titan anymore. Never mind.

Is the smaller engine with a turbo a 300,000 mile engine or a 200,000 mile engine? Where as the bigger liter engine is a 300,000 mile engine? It seems like the turbos have some longevity issues? I'm asking not saying.

I think I just exceeded the allowable amount of ? for a post.

The 3.5 can go 300,000 miles, you might be on your 2nd set of turbos though. Generally the turbo oil seals fail and most choose to replace them instead of rebuilding. They spin at crazy high rpm to get that boost at idle. Stay away from extended oil change intervals as well, it seems to be the in thing, but I'm pretty confident that's a major cause of Cam phaser issues going back to the 5.4's. I run euro spec 5w-40 in all my gas engines and tdi's and I've never had an issue. The 5w-20 and 0w-40 oils are a joke, ask anyone with a GM 6.2...

I have 2 friends that are Ford techs and they say the worst thing you can do is not run 5w20. Fords are built with a tight tolerance and require the lighter oil. Thy say with the 5.4 its very important with cam phasers. When I got my 07 and saw 5w20 I laughed and said no way. Put in 5w30 and was talking to them about it. Their response was if you want to put in a new motor go with 5w30 other wise run 5w20. My 6.2 uses 5w30.

I had a hard time finding oil and it was winter.  I changed my oil using 5w 20 because i couldnt find 5w 30.  It got to be march and April and it just didn't feel like it was running right.  Kind of a 2 stroke running lean feel, just really sharp and peaky.  It started warming up outside and I was able to buy 5w 30 so I changed it.   Wow night and day.   I never had an oil change  or effect performance much, in anything.  But from the turn of the key, the computer, the engine something likes 5w 30 better.  I even commented that I would never use 5w 20 again.  But I'm talking about the 5.0.  Would the ecos be much different that 5w 20 works for them or is it a turbo thing.

The 5.4 cam phaser issue was just a shit part from the start with a horrible longevity record.  As a service advisor then shop manager for Ford I loved them things lol. The two piece spark plugs don't even get me started on.  To agree to your point, regular oil changes with correct weight is key.  Funny i love the 6.2L from GMC

My stepson is a mechanic and he replaced one of those diesel engines in a Nissan and he said the engine is a piece of crap. He said Cummins doesn't "support " it anymore.  Whatever that means.

Ouch! That's good to know. I'm happy with the 6.7 in my Ram, but I'm thinking that was built in the US and the one in the Nissan was built somewhere overseas.

For what its worth he is a Dodge Ram guy. He owns a 2011 2500 diesel pickup and I never hear him complain about it. He got rid of all the emissions stuff, removing a wheel barrow full of stuff.

If I remember right Nissan only sold that diesel Nissan for 2-4 years.

I’m pretty sure your 6.7 was built in MX

If you like to change your own oil like myslef the Ranger is not exactly a fun option.  You have to remove the driver side front wheel to change the oil and filter. DUMB design

Since you bring up oil changes and this is about the F150 , I keep a sheet of cardboard that's about 4x8 just for doing oil changes. The drain hole fires the oil directly into the sway bar and it turns into a massive shower of oil every time I do an oil change.  I never bothered to get the aftermarket drain port that points the oil straight down.

A piece of strategically placed duct tape on the bar works really well for making it go down.

Anything with the number 3 starting your VIN is Mexico. Things can be shifting since Trump took over.

I think the Bronco is more buried…behind the skid plate…but, guess what? They added a drain canal that routes the oil over and away from all the other crap…once you remove the skid.

If I’m not mistaken, a stock Raptor is a PIA to drain?

The 2.7 is the most reliable engine Ford makes right now. It's incredible really.

The current 3.5 is awesome too and tows like an absolute champ. 2nd gen (years you're looking at) are much more reliable than the 1st gen

The 5.0 is a LITTLE more hit or miss with issues. Depends on the year, but it's the one engine in the line up I personally wouldn't go with.

I see a lot of hate on the 10 speed tranny, but it's been awesome for me. If you can pick up a truck with a 100k warranty, that'd be ideal.

Here's my 2020 custom order from Ford. 3.5 max tow. Still stock, has about 76k on it now, zero issues and I tow a 26ft travel trailer all the time. Just my wife and I and wanted the 6.5 bed, but not a limo, so I went with another supercab like my '05 5.4 was. It's too bad these are getting harder and harder to option because everyone buys crew cabs:

Dude, most I've gone on an unloaded road trip (no towing) was a bit over 800 miles. I just drove to GH and back Tuesday and Thursday and I'm averaging 23.2 mpg on this tank. That's with 1 bike on Tuesday, 2 bikes yesterday.

Ford used to build medium trucks through Blue Diamond with Navistar out of Mexico but that's all done now. Half tons are Detroit or KC, Super Duty pickups are all Kentucky, and the F650/750's and the Super Duty cab&chassis models are out of Ohio Assembly.

Have a bigger one of these, cut off 6 inches of the tube so it flows fast. wedges between the stabilizer bar. works great.

Looks like she's in pretty good shape, all thing considered. If it comes to it re-doing the timing with a phaser lockout kit and a new Melling oil pump would probably have it running for years. Non-VCT 4.6's and 5.4's will be what the cockroaches use to get around after we're gone.

WE WANT THE LOCKING REAR END AND THE TRAILER BRAKES! 💪🏻🐿🇺🇸

My son has a 2022 F150 with a 2.7 and he loves it. He said his fuel consumption is as good or better than the Ranger he has previously (the Ranger was lifted which would have affected the fuel economy ).

2019 F-150 XLT crew with 3.5 EB, 6.5 bed, max tow here with 63k miles. Best vehicle I ever owned! I drive it in ECO mode most of the time and have gotten above 800 miles to a tank running around the mountains, pulls my trailer like nothing is there, quiet as a luxury vehicle, and no major issues so far besides some "hard shifts". I've had less than 5 "hard shifts" and those occurred when I was non-committal with the throttle. Best advice I got was to get a crew cab if I had the room to park it (it goes on the driveway).  With the 6.5 bed, the ride and handling are much better than my old supercab and the room inside is outstanding. Best of luck, Damien!

Pump the brakes....think about it ...do you really want to have this truck payment?

Is this going to help you towards your goal of owning your own home?

That's a pretty truck..... Though I'm biased because it's the same as mine , minus the rims and engine Smile

Chance- You won’t miss the old truck after driving the new one, hope you come home with it!

Double the MPG with double the power, it will be hard to wrap your head around it but it will be such an upgrade!
