I found a tracker they use for turtles in the wild.  Speed differential seems to match up.

Where do you get it?

I've become just to damned fast for my trusty Sundial to cope with my speed, now.

You're fast enough that you beat me to it.

😀 This is an old MXA joke. IYKYK to use modern parlance.

Reminds me of the Jody’s Box where he calculated that he could save a second or two doing the “big double,” but would lose a couple months in plaster if he came up short…so by his math he saves a couple months’ worth of seconds if he doesn’t jump it.😂

I recently noticed the Garmin Fenix 8 (and it seems 7?) now have a Motocross feature with auto lap function. Anyone used it?

My forerunner has the mx function as well. I did read (awhile back, not sure if it’s changed) that LITPro didn’t recommend using it if you are using a garmin watch for gps signal. Can’t recall why exactly, something about the way garmin does it doesn’t play well with LITPro. They recommended using one of several other modes.

I have used it (just within the garmin app) and I did get a fair amount of info.

I will second everyone on litpro. That said, I have the cuo from gasgas on my front fender and that gets you much more accurate information.

If you don't want to pay for any service, ypu can always get a polar watch and use the "motocross" or "mountain biking" tracker. They will separate out lap times and everything.

I use this,  simple and it works great. I set an emitter somewhere along the track and it starts over every time i go by.  When you're done you can go back and look at all the times,  i can also look down when i go by as it freezes for 10 seconds each time you pass the emitter.

I think it was 50 bucks on ebay.

Many of the newer Garmin watches have multi-band GPS capability.  You can select, by each activity-type, how many and which GPS bands you want to use for that activity-type.  For MX, you basically want the highest level for the most accuracy because of the tight, twisty nature of the track.   Perhaps the native MX mode does not come defaulted to the highest accuracy?  In my Garmin Forerunner, I just built my own custom activity-type for MX and max'ed out the GPS accuracy.  Works great and Lit-Pro lap times work great with it.  The downside to increased GPS accuracy is decreased battery life, so you don't want the accuracy maxed out for things like long road bike rides, etc.

I think I have my lap time solution.

I bought the LITPro app for $11.99 a month and so far have only tried it on 1 mtb trail but it seems to be pretty good. Had two rainouts this week so hopefully this weekend I try more.

I have been having trouble with my 5 year old Garmin fenix 5 plus. The menu button has stopped working so I have lost a bit of functionality. I tried a soft restart which didn't work so the next step was going back to factory settings, still no dice. I pretty much figured it was time to replace it but called Garmin on the chance they offer a repair service. Bad news is they didn't. What they did offer was a Garmin fēnix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar, Multisport GPS Smartwatch (a recertified model) for $240 with the return of my watch. This watch has been going from $825-$900 on Amazon for the past week so it wasn't a hard decision. Also according to ChatGPT this watch has the best features for moto and mtb'ing. If the moto feature works like I think it does I may cancel the LITPro.

TL:DR  Garmin customer service is the new gold standard.
