It's a thought that never entered my mind. My first race that I attended was the 1981 USGP and it was amazing watching pro racers from around the world ripping up the grass and dirt at Unadilla. I even remember when Ray Sommo flew by me on his factory supported KX 80. I didn't think of booing him running a couple gears faster than me. As fast as Sommo was there are many factory pros who line up a every round of the outdoor series with blazing fast speed. I still enjoy the battles for 14th and 15th place. So, I'm lost with this "new" fan mentality. Anyone ever boo a racer?

People who boo riders are ignorant of what it takes to ride/race at the Pro level or just plain ignorant for that matter.
I went to Millville and Red Bud this year and the only thing I saw that was negative was people giving the thumbs down to Pourcel, which I think is fine. Well there was one fat redneck that was booing the foreign riders at Red Bud. That pissed me off, but then I saw the same guy later in the day arguing with a rep from Toyota how their trucks are pieces of shit 'cause their Japanese. I found this funny because he was trying to yell over the sounds of a Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha...So I just wrote him off as an idiot.
1990 Seattle SX I booed Jeff Matasavich when he was jacking with Larry Ward, but so did 20k other people or so....
It was pretty much a knee jerk reaction for most ward fans that were watching the race.
HUGE, HUGE, props go to Trey Canard for coming up next and telling all the A- holes that CP was an awesome rider and shouldn't be booed. There were a lot of foots in mouths around me. The fans politely and quitely cheered at the 2nd moto podium. I've always known Trey was a great guy but that had to be the most kind thing I've seen someone do for someone going for the same title as them. He's got another fan for life
That being said, if people want to boo it's their right to. They bought a ticket and they don't have to like everyone. Plenty if great MLBers and NFLers that people just don't like, so they boo them. It's part of the show. People have boo'd at sporting events forever!!! It's part of what makes sports so great.
People boo Kyle Busch, it's just a personal thing. Some athletes relate to people more than others.

There was a HUGE freakin wave of boos following RC around the track and then I noticed that a buddy I was with was also booing! I smacked him in the arm and told him to stfu! To this day, when RC's name comes up, this guy will often apologize for jumping on the RC boo band wagon that night.
Then TP got on the PA and told the crowd that HE had ran into RC as hard as he could to try to knock RC over, but that still didn't phase the RC boo birds! In that same post race interview, TP compared RC to a weeble wobble...knock him hard but couldnt knock him down!
That whole RC booing era was sad.
Why do you think most of us feel really bad when one of our riders gets injured or even worse?
That's one thing about this sport I truly love.....it has ( for the most part ) a family atmospheric type thing about it that makes it so special.
I don't boo riders....as what happens on the track , stays on the track! weather you are a beginner racer or a top notch pro.......you are part of this group. Or even if you don't race...but ride and appreciate it.......then you are part of this group.
Why would you boo a family member? Because sometimes that's how I almost feel with a lot of these guys. I know it may sound cheesy.......but I want them all to stay healthy , and race hard with each other.
just sayin'..........
That night was crazy. I hat to boo any of those guys..even the guy in 40th. The level of talent and commitment to get that far makes them boo-proof in my book.
