Did you ever boo a racer?

Edited Date/Time 1/26/2012 3:55pm
It's a thought that never entered my mind. My first race that I attended was the 1981 USGP and it was amazing watching pro racers from around the world ripping up the grass and dirt at Unadilla. I even remember when Ray Sommo flew by me on his factory supported KX 80. I didn't think of booing him running a couple gears faster than me. As fast as Sommo was there are many factory pros who line up a every round of the outdoor series with blazing fast speed. I still enjoy the battles for 14th and 15th place. So, I'm lost with this "new" fan mentality. Anyone ever boo a racer?

I dont boo, i will usually just cheer for my fav riders. But i can say in St. Louis 2 years ago when Pastrana was there and had to go to the LCQ and then him and a privateer got together and he made it into the main and not TP, that whole stadium was booing him, I felt really bad for the guy. Could have been in one of those old southwest airline commercials, "wanna get away".

I booed Reed until he sacked up and ran the Outdoors. I disapprove of Stewart right now. One more year of SX only and he's black listed to me. No racial pun intended. This whole "I'm only doing the Outdoors for the MXdN" is a joke. Go try and get on the SXdN team... oh wait, that doesn't exist, yet. Bercy is getting closer to having one.

Never boo'd anyone. But i'm interested if anyone boo'd at M.Alessi during his silly years (pressing the kill switch on Tedesco's bike etc).

I have never booed a racer. Ever!! I think it's complete BS to boo any racer at a SX or a MX national. Although there's one place I think it's ok and that's at a team race like the Des Nations. I totally understand when USA goes to Europe that some fans boo. It's a team race with massive amounts of national pride so I think that's the only place I may understand it a little. That being said I'll be in Lakewood and I seriously doubt you'll catch me booing anyone. I've been thinking of dressing and painting myself in red , white and blue so you may see some Euros booing me though..lol

Never have.......never will.

People who boo riders are ignorant of what it takes to ride/race at the Pro level or just plain ignorant for that matter.

Look for the guy waving the Minnesota, Oklahoma and Colorado flags. I'll look for a guy dressed in paint. Shouldn't be to hard.

I can regretfully say I've booed the GOAT. It was Anaheim circa 01 when it appeared (from my vantage point) that he took out TP199 in the heat race. Practically everyone booed him, I just hopped on the band wagon. After I saw what really happened I took it back Smile

I never booed a racer cause I have too much respect for them, but...

I went to Millville and Red Bud this year and the only thing I saw that was negative was people giving the thumbs down to Pourcel, which I think is fine. Well there was one fat redneck that was booing the foreign riders at Red Bud. That pissed me off, but then I saw the same guy later in the day arguing with a rep from Toyota how their trucks are pieces of shit 'cause their Japanese. I found this funny because he was trying to yell over the sounds of a Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha...So I just wrote him off as an idiot.

I'm guilty!

1990 Seattle SX I booed Jeff Matasavich when he was jacking with Larry Ward, but so did 20k other people or so.... Smile
It was pretty much a knee jerk reaction for most ward fans that were watching the race.

Then there were a lot of idiots at Steel City. Seemingly everybody but me booed Pourcel. When they called his name on the podium I cheered and everyone else rained down with boos. It was one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen.

HUGE, HUGE, props go to Trey Canard for coming up next and telling all the A- holes that CP was an awesome rider and shouldn't be booed. There were a lot of foots in mouths around me. The fans politely and quitely cheered at the 2nd moto podium. I've always known Trey was a great guy but that had to be the most kind thing I've seen someone do for someone going for the same title as them. He's got another fan for life

Just cause someone can do something you can't doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to boo them... I don't boo or cheer outloud at concerts or sporting events, I'm just kinda low profile at those things.. At a bar hanging with friends watching a football game, I will trash talk non stop, and get loud..

That being said, if people want to boo it's their right to. They bought a ticket and they don't have to like everyone. Plenty if great MLBers and NFLers that people just don't like, so they boo them. It's part of the show. People have boo'd at sporting events forever!!! It's part of what makes sports so great.

People boo Kyle Busch, it's just a personal thing. Some athletes relate to people more than others.

Did you boo McGrath when he did SX only? Think he's a POS?

LoL...I was there too and damn was I pissed at the folks who were booing RC!

There was a HUGE freakin wave of boos following RC around the track and then I noticed that a buddy I was with was also booing! I smacked him in the arm and told him to stfu! To this day, when RC's name comes up, this guy will often apologize for jumping on the RC boo band wagon that night.

Then TP got on the PA and told the crowd that HE had ran into RC as hard as he could to try to knock RC over, but that still didn't phase the RC boo birds! In that same post race interview, TP compared RC to a weeble wobble...knock him hard but couldnt knock him down!

That whole RC booing era was sad.

"Other" sports are NOT motocross. I think we have a closer type brethren group when it comes to this sport.

Why do you think most of us feel really bad when one of our riders gets injured or even worse?

That's one thing about this sport I truly love.....it has ( for the most part ) a family atmospheric type thing about it that makes it so special.

I don't boo riders....as what happens on the track , stays on the track! weather you are a beginner racer or a top notch pro.......you are part of this group. Or even if you don't race...but ride and appreciate it.......then you are part of this group.

Why would you boo a family member? Because sometimes that's how I almost feel with a lot of these guys. I know it may sound cheesy.......but I want them all to stay healthy , and race hard with each other.

just sayin'..........

I joined in with the crowd the night in SLC where RC and Ferry got into it and RC was going to bugger Matthes. RC deserved it that night. Obviously, his next visit went better.

That night was crazy. I hat to boo any of those guys..even the guy in 40th. The level of talent and commitment to get that far makes them boo-proof in my book.
