ANYWAY. Cool to see this in the F1 world. Not a Deegan fan but you can't argue with his impact and now his results. Good for him. I think Lando wants channel himself some Dangerboy haha.

You’re welcome to challenge me on this — happy to jump on a call if you’d like. I’ve attended 26 F1 races, grew up near Silverstone, and have spent time with several drivers and photographers from Sutton Motorsport who’ve covered thousands of races. I don’t say this to brag — just to point out that I’m not speaking casually or without experience.

Sometimes, criticism isn’t the best way to make a point — and in this case, you’re simply mistaken. As I’ve already noted, McLaren has clear rules around driver attire. They were especially strict during the Ron Dennis era, but the team still controls what drivers wear during official events.

Lewis Hamilton is a unique case because he negotiated a clause into his contract specifically allowing him to dress differently at certain times — including track arrivals. Even then, his looks are curated by his stylist, Eric McNeal. So no, he doesn’t just wear whatever he wants.

We can go back and forth all day, but those are the facts

So who's your F1 acquaintance? I would be inclined to believe that there are some rules for attire, but they are not the same for every...

So who's your F1 acquaintance? I would be inclined to believe that there are some rules for attire, but they are not the same for every driver/team and more about how they don't want you to dress.

Yep, that’s why I said in my original post that I was surprised he was allowed to—or willing to—wear it. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment, but honestly, he’s such a high-profile figure that it’s not a bear I’d want to poke.

As for adding names—people on here often say they “know someone” or have “heard something,” and it turns out to be nonsense. My own experience with McLaren and its policies comes from a family friend, Oliver Turvey, who was their development driver from 2012 until this year. I’ve literally had his suitcase full of team-issued gear in my car; he’s changed into it in my house.

But really, this isn’t hard to verify—just Google it. What drivers wear is very much controlled. And between Oliver’s career and others I’ve known in the sport—engineers, mechanics, media, team staff—it’s clear everything in F1 is about brand and commercial control

Or 10 million people won’t get it. And aren’t going to take the time to figure out what sweatshirt Lando is wearing.

Not saying it’s bad. But pretending everyone that sees it will automatically understand that’s Haiden Deegan professional SX/MX rider is foolish.

Ironically, it was another F1 driver that came to mind back when people were debating Deegans behavior a couple weeks ago.  Many used Deegan’s age as an excuse.   Compare Deegan to 18 year old Mercedes F1 driver Kimi Antonelli.  Antonelli is the picture of professionalism and poise.

You don't have to go that far, just compare him to Davies....his much younger and more mature teammate.

The most 'influential' rider since James Stewart? I see you've started on the pipe extra early today. Or perhaps you've been smoking the same thing 971 has?

If you mean he's influential as in like an 'influencer', yes. But that is entirely different to Stew. He's influential in that he fundamentally changed the way people ride.

Yes, but it's a shame its via Deegan. It's hardly going to do much for changing the sport's reputation as a redneck bogan sport.

Part of it is because moto is a trashy sport really if you think about it (like Monster trucks). It's like a traveling domestic circus (Feld) governed by a joke of a governing body (AMA) with announcers that could use some lessons. The fans love hotdogs, burgers, fries, and beer. The venues get dirty (of course it's dirt bike racing), profanity 24/7, people roam free at the nationals shirtless in cowboy boots, piss and shit flowing out the portapotties. Riders talk crap. It's more like a free for all. But that's why we love it.

Then there's F1. The epitome of money, professionalism, and prestige governed by a professional institution. Where you need to show discipline and competence 100% of the time or else you'll be booted and your seat will be taken by another driver the next weekend. An international 24 race series, millions upon millions are examining you. Teams would spend over $400 MILLION per year developing their car, now they are capped to $135 million. This is just for R&D, excluding all other expenditures. Sponsors include the biggest tech companies, luxury watches, and LV.

So it's not really fair to compare Deegan to Antonelli.

The guy was named after a Star Wars character. Has anyone done a DNA test to see if its Darksides kid? 🙃

Is his brothers name Hans?

Most aggressive in what way? His style of riding? He does some serious sends and he revs the bike a lot. But when a picture raw aggression, I dint think he holds a candle to RV

Sorry mate, you lost me at "governed by a professional institution" The FIA is just as big a shit show as the AMA.
