I'm glad Supercross is over.  It's a damn shame that the circus promoters have commandeered the sport and it's now just about making money.  The announcers suck, the program directors suck, the injuries suck.  I wish it were practical for the pros to boycott supercross altogether.

For all of the flaws of the outdoor series, at least it's more about racing than putting on a show.

Does that make him more or less of a fan of the fine china?

RV is 2nd all time, bested only by RC. He clears Stew and MC. Stew bc RV has more titles and could keep up with Stew. MC bc RV could do it both indoors and out.

Bonus points for racing in the modern era and beating the likes of Dungey, Stew, Reed, Roczen, etc.

I personally think RV is under rated whenever the all time list debate is brought up. I have him #2 also. What he accomplished in such a short time in the 450s is incredible and thats before you even take into consideration who he did it against. Its to bad he had those couple knee injuries that likely robbed him of at least one more outdoor title.

Easy: It’s the most mentally and physically demanding sport around, and it is still accessible to the common man.

I race dirt bikes and like watching those more skilled than me race dirt bikes.

Wholeheartedly agree. One of the strongest resumes in the sport's history, and accomplished it against some of the toughest competition of all time.

You could also say MC was the one who ushered us into the modern era..... if you watch a race from 92 , and say 2001 when RC beat MC, there was a massive shift in the way guys rode.  MC didn't scrub , but by the late 90's-2000's he was staying lower than everyone, jumping technical sections,  and hitting whoops that make the ones in 2025 look like nothing.

Supercross should be eliminated. It only exists because it can be held in metro areas but in today’s form it’s not true to the spirit of dirt bike racing and is to dangerous. Compare serious career altering injuries in SX vs MX. sure mx has some over the years but they are far more common in SX.

That would mean no Yamaha PulpMx privateer challenge...

Villopoto was a better Supercross rider than Stewart. Stewart occasionally could beat him straight-up, but more often than not, Villopoto could run his pace, and not wreck himself.

I also would say, had he found motivation to race a few more years, we would look at him as the greatest of all time. I don't think he would've had a problem beating Dungey from '15-'17.

I was gonna say that lol. RV hung it up very early and could have had way more titles and be in contention for GOAT. Dungey had a few wins over RV but at the end of the day, Villo was just better.

With Supercross over and outdoors about to begin; I’m curious to see if anyone has any hot takes from the season or in general about our sport.
I’ll go first:

Ryan Dungey would be considered the GOAT if not for Ryan Villopoto. Of course impossible to say for sure I still think it’s a cool school of thought:

If Dungey won every championship that Villopoto did while they raced together, here’s what it would look like:

Actual Dungey Titles:
Supercross: 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017 = 4 titles

Motocross: 2010, 2012, 2015 = 3 titles
Total: 7

Add Villopoto’s Titles (assuming Dungey wins them instead):
Supercross: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014

Motocross: 2011, 2013
Add: 6 more titles

Hypothetical Total:
Supercross: 8 titles

Motocross: 5 titles
Grand Total: 13 championships

With 13 titles, Dungey would’ve passed McGrath in total championships and only trailed Carmichael—while having way fewer injuries and a more consistent career.

not super spicy more like siracha but I’m curious what vital has to say and it goes without saying I’m a fan of both Ryan’s and was blessed to be a fan of the sport while they were both racing. True greatness.

So what you are saying is if Dungey had won all of the races and championships he lost, he would have more wins and championships? That is amazing!

If DV never does that photo shoot, how many titles does he ring up after he knocked off RC?

Dungey would only have 1 more supercross title.

2011: Chad Reed

2012: Davie Millsaps

2013: Davie Millsaps

2014: Ryan Dungey

Hot Take - Vialle will be a 450 SX champion. In fact, he'll become the new Dungey. Not the fastest guy, but always there, always in the hunt for the championship.

In order for Tom to be 450 SX champion Eli, Jett, Hunter, Chase, Webb, Stewart, Roczen,  Ando, Cooper, Deegan all have to be out..

Jett has one, he can still win another one to make two. Just like Stew and Eli.

Which makes the spicy take invalid 😅

Dungey also hauled ass many of times too. He doesn’t have the accolades he does just because he was there every time. Diesel’s top end speed was always extremely underrated.

I have discussed this with a buddy of mine several times.  Go back and watch some battles, the Dunge would hang it out. Guy absolutely hauled.
