Qatar’s royal family is generously gifting Trump a new plane...
That’s not a great look. I mean, that’s one kick ass bird, but it might be best that Trump respectfully decline. Accepting gifts from foreign countries is typically frowned upon. And that’s one helluva gift!

100% true. But I think we agree the optics aren’t great. Plus L3Harris will require months if not years to retrofit it to DoD standards, which will be immediately removed once Trump is no longer CinC.
Well, we used their F15Q’s to develop our F15EX…they got “cut off” on the really good stuff and for reasons that Qatar is trying to “fix”…so, there’s a bit going on here. They’re trying to buy their way back into our favor…? Fine. I’ll take it.

I think that giving the plane to the Trump Library Foundation is the sketchy part. If it is a gift to the DoD, then there shouldn't be that condition attached.
How long will it take to modify the plane with all the proper tech, defense capabilities, etc.? Sounds like at least a couple of years. What is the benefit of spending that sort of money on the modifications over the current 747s?
I will give Trump credit for telling the truth when he claimed that this was all transparent, though!

I actually don’t know what it will take to make it into a legitimate AF1, so it may be a fantastic offer from the Qataris. But it sounds like it will take a lot of time to convert. Maybe not.
The condition that it basically goes to Trump after his term, however, should be a nonstarter for anyone with an ounce of objectivity to them.
That's the whole point, it will never be converted into an AF1, so we may as well just consider this a gift to the Trump Org.
Security protocols would require near complete disassembly. DoD-spec stuff can be added, but you can imagine it’s not off-the-shelf avionics. By then Trump will be heading to Mir-A-Lago full time!

You and I both know that thing turns into Trump Force 1 at the end of his term and will be used by him until such time as he no longer needs it. Then it will be "donated" to his library and written off as a tax deduction by the Trump Org.

I agree it just doesnt look good if a gift like that goes to the POTUS, but at least all of this is being talked about in the wide open. The small fortune the "Big Guy" got was all clandestine and laundered through shell companies.
Regardless, he really needs to stay away from that thing. Because as several have pointed out, if the "Big Guy" was getting something like that, there would be lots of bitching from the other side.
