Hi, My 93 KX250 CDI has left the building and I’m not keen on paying a couple of hundred $ for a 2nd hand 30 year old replacement.

I’m looking for advice on the best available replacements. Vortex don’t appear to do anything for older 2  strokes, I have seen some units on Regulator Rectifiers and have seen mention of Ignitech but would like some feedback from someone who knows more than me.

Thanks

Another vote for HPI.

Got a full electrical kit for my 1989 RM250 (CDI, Stator, Coil etc) and its been faultless.

Hard to beat OEM black box, but JDI is an option, used by a solid race team back in the last stages of the two stroke factory racing. However not sure if they make something that old, but you could check with them.

I bought a HPI programable CDI for a bike build im doing right now and the stock ignition curve it came with were terrible. We are talking a hand full of HP less than the stock CDI on the dyno.

So i would not buy a HPI box without buying the programable option and then have it mapped looking at how bad it ran.

And when you look at the curves for all the bikes that they have in their tuning software, it’s clear that they just make a safe curve out of the thinn air, nothing that it goes in real testing to.

Not a CDI but I replaced a stator on a 1996 Suz RM250 with aftermarket and the only problem there was no timing mark on stator plate to match case mark.

You see that a 04 cr125 is not listed .  I talked to Budd racing they can get a JD ignition programmed to a hgs pipe . For 732.00 a lot of cash the Honda ignition is Real good. I would love to hv it but money is tight & honestly I don’t think I need it . The map would not be for a mod engine . I found a new 04 cr125 ignition.  I don’t think the kx250 changed a whole lot 93- 96 or higher yr.  Not sure but I think the 95 was a really good yr. Just get any yr if the plug is the same . I would go with 95 & up. Run good leaded fuel a small jetting change might b needed but probably not.  I changed 04 stock ignitions on my cr125 04 & noticed a difference early to later manufactured dates . I think it had a tiny difference.  Remember the mags trashed this bike pretty bad.

Yes !  I have 2 JD units for a couple of 3rd gen AF CR250r’s.  They made a noticeable difference on a stock & modified engine.  Definitely worthwhile upgrade mod IMHO..
