I think electric bikes are a huge plus for the sport of mx. Imagine if they can make them perform as well as gas. It will be incredible to see races im mall parking lots, behind strip malls and 10 ft away from housing. Not to mention all the tracks that will pop up all over backyard suburbia. Sure it will be hard getting that same rush without the noise but if they can build a 60hp dirtbike it will be all good.

Anyone have any links to any stuff written on them?

Does it actually have gears? Cause if it's automatic then that would take all the skill out of it and just make it boring as hell to ride.

Its electric, that means there is no gearbox or anything like that.
Just move the throttle and it will start driving.

I think the lack of noise reducing the experience thing is a fallacy. Just about every non-motorized sport produces no noise, yet the rush is still there when you are in the thick of it.

How loud is a superbowl stadium, or the soccer world cup final stadium, or an Olympic stadium during 100m final, yet the activities on the field are producing virtually no noise.

Also consider an all electric SX inside a stadium - all of a sudden the crowd noise will become a factor for the riders.

I did testride some of the electric bikes, and believe me, after some laps of getting used to the bike, you wont miss the noise. Its different for sure, but its also a lot of fun!!

If those things take over I'll take up jet-skiing.

Electric does not mean there can't be gears.

I don't know for a fact but I'll bet it's gearless. Electric motors put out max torque right off zero rpm all the way through their max rpm. Really no need for a gear box. JMO

It's not really the fact that it's electric that will turn me away, it's the $12,000+ price tag. I know it will sell regardless, though. I would think so at least.

The AMA should give them some ridiculous power advantage so the OEM's will pursue electrics making the pile of shit 4 strokes extinct. We could blame it on the EPA too! Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.Whistling

I can totally see Electric bikes being the next "big thing".. once the engineering is all ironed out. would love to see a team out at the nationals giving it a go..

definitely one of those type devices where "less is more" less moving parts to break/adjust..

bring on the electric bike era! let's get rid of these overpriced over wrenched 4-strokes!

Electric bikes probably would translate to more tracks closer to home. Go 50 mph over a 70 foot triple, come up short, auger into the ground, break some bones or worse..... the next time you get on your boring, quiet electric bike you will go to the track, twist the throttle, launch over a triple and get the exact same adrenalin rush you always got, noise or no noise.

Does it have gears? Automatic means no skill. Hmmm you mean like 3rd gear on a 4 stroke?

If those things take over, I will take up Jet Skiing? I wonder if they will make an electric Jet Ski?

The no noise no funnoise thing is nonsense. How many of you have ever done mountain biking on fast or technical downhills?

If these things get reliable and the price is reasonable, I would definitely get one.

Many benefits for sure but,as in all things battery powered(with no internal charging system)you start losing full power almost immediately and gradually end up with nothing.Unless KTM has figured a way to get you almost 100% until it needs a recharge,I wouldn't be interested.

It's difficult for me to get my head around the concept of an electric MX bike. It seems that the technology required to produce a motor/battery that is comparable to the current power plants is a long, long way off.

Am I wrong? If so, where can I find information on these electric bikes?

That said, I never imagined that 4 strokes would rule Pro MX. My friends and I would laugh at the 4 strokes in the 70s.

RACEGUY,

Thanks.

I had no idea battery/motor power-plants had that capability.

It will be interesting to see how it moves into MX.

It could be the ability to bring bikes into neighborhoods (low noise) will take the sport in an interesting new direction.

Race on!!

The price will drop as thet become produced and as there is more competition. I think it would be freeken awesome. I've only trail ridden an MX bike a handful of times, but man imagine the single track you could roost here in Colorado, AMAZING. Bring it on!
4T became 2T, became 4T became 0T.
Rock on through Electric Avenue.
