A couple months ago I picked up a 2-owner 2005 CR250R that allegedly hadn't been touched since 2010. The gentleman who posted it nearly 9 months prior admitted to me he hasn't had a single person reach out. Which is understandable, the price was high, bike was dirty, photos in his listing were not nice.
But I was able to see the potential... I saw the original Sunstar sprocket. Original Dunlop D756 & 742. Mint radiators. Etc etc. Clearly this thing was ugly but not ridden hard nor that much. Potential gem on my hands here.
I go check it out to see if it's the real deal and see if I could shrewdly negotiate him down. Sure enough it is pretty nice for having sat 15 years. I worked a deal with the seller and brought this last-gen two stroke home.

Bike came apart super easily, an excellent surprise. Not one bolt had a difficult time coming out. Most of them still had their nice zinc plating from the factory.
My goal for this bike was to put it back to stock 2005- as if I snagged it from the showroom floor. Of all parts required to put it back to stock, a really nice OEM head pipe was the hardest (and priciest) thing to find. So I stuck with the full pro circuit works system. The PC system was astonishingly in perfect condition after putting in some elbow grease to make it look new. Unreal
I was able to find OEM bars from that era of bike (Renthal H 971 7/8" with the "old font" logo), a mint stock seat cover, clutch & ignition cover. Ordered a seat foam from Guts. Replica graphics from a company in California. The white number plates are original, red plastic is UFO.
Really went through the entire thing, scrubbed everything down to a like-new shine. The only things that were vapor blasted were the brake calipers, completely disassembled them to service properly.
End result is stellar. If I had to estimate, there are maybe 15~20 total hours on this bike from new. Not a single clicker was ever touched on this bike. Of the 4 CR250's of this generation I've owned, this one was clearly the closest to new.
Just waiting on the Honda carb hoses to arrive, and the carb will be installed.
Sweet build. I know those gen Hondas were bad about the rad shroud digging into the frame. May want to make some rubber pads to prevent that.
This is how it’s done. Beautiful.

Where were you able to source the OEM 2005 replica graphics?
Also have a 2005, but with stock OEM Honda 2007 graphics- which are great but not year correct. The OEM 2005 left side graphic 87127-KSK-710ZA is still available, but the right side is not. And the complete OEM radiator shrouds with OEM graphics are also no longer available from Honda. Would like to stay with the correct year. Thanks.
Hey, I went with a company named 'PistonBones printing' as I saw they had very close OEM replicas on their eBay page, and I contacted them directly about replicating 2005 ones. They did good but sadly the only detail that are not perfect about these is the fact that the "CR" is white and not grey like original. Annoying that I didn't catch it before they sent it to me but oh well.
Yes I saw that Honda only has one side available, and not the other... Bummer.
I was able to source 2005 OEM stock shrouds with graphics in good condition, I am getting them next week. So my set here in these pics might be up for sale.
Thanks for the update
Throttle Jockey….
Oh boy.... Now I just feel silly! Lol. Why didn't I think of TJ. Thank you for this info 😅🙏🏼
Rare find & good eye on looking for the rt stuff. A few other parts I look for in a very low hr cr. Rims do they shine. T clamps, top fork tubes , hardware in general , etc. one of my 04,s had under 5 hrs on it. It had all black plastic , x games graphics. Another 1 I bought is aprox 10 hrs . From a pro gncc racer I don’t want to get him
Into trouble because the teams r not always cool with there rider riding a 2-st especially if they don’t make them. The cr250,s hv such a worxs bike feel to them. I Love riding 250 2-st & naturally ride them good. But my back surgery stuff I think there harder on your back . So I stay with 125,s I stand a lot more . Plus I don’t hv to do any training.
Bike looks amazing !! man every time I see those one industry graphics it just takes me back to much better times...
I have a pair of brand new 2007 oem Honda CR250R shrouds with graphics. Still in original plastic pouches and boxes. I may sell or trade.
Hi, nice work on that scoot.
I have a nice OEM pipe for sale if you are still on the hunt.
Those TJ graphics look nice. Especially compared to what the bike came with. I have a basically new set of OEM plastic for an 07 CR250 sans the front plate/fender as well.
Do you race in Derby VT or stay north of the border?
Thanks, I actually ended up finding a full original exhaust system as well as the 2005 original shrouds (previous owner sold me more bikes over the weekend, and he totally forgot he had all this stuff for the 250.... Oh well).
One of the other bikes I just picked up from this same guy is a matching 2005 CR125, saw a little bit more use but still almost completely original. I might start another thread or just continue here
And no I haven't gone south of the border to ride/race yet, I know eventually I'd like to
Nice
I have a few mint items to sell for the 2002-2007
CR 250
mint long stock oem silencer
shroud graphic set
mint rear sprocket guard
plate set
will post photo's if anyone is interested let me know- will give a package deal on it all!
Dude, you did an amazing job. Did you end up re-using all the hardware? Or did you get a hardware replacement kit like Bolt has?
Thank you, and yup every single bolt on the bike was original & very much still usable. No aftermarket .
The fun part about this build is that it was more of a deep cleaning ordeal than an full on restoration.
Pit Row
Update after a few busy weeks, I went back to the same gentleman who sold me this 250 and bought three more bikes off him that were collecting dust in his garage - the notable one being a matching 2005 CR125. After I get the other two cleaned up and sold I will move onto the 125.
Wouldn't you believe it...The guy totally forgot he had the stock plastics, and stock exhaust for this 250. Oh well.
Ended up doing a repair on the header since it was littered with dents. Not perfect, definitely a lot better than it was before. Luckily the silencer was in perfect condition
Here it sits in its final form. Crazy how fresh everything feels fresh from front to back.... Truly no other way to describe it than a "time machine."
JC, nice work. That bike looks awesome stock.
Awesome work mate.
Has anyone attempted soaking these era fork guards in hydrogen peroxide in direct sunlight for 4-6 hours? To brighten them? It works on youtube…
I have a few parts for sale 75.00 for all in for sale section also
That thing is so clean! Will you ride it?
