“It’s so hard to get it gathered back up when you make a mistake in the whoops cause you’re so committed. Watch what happens…. oh that wasn’t whoops, that was a rhythm lane.”

Ricky during the replay when Henry Miller and Brayton Carroll were down at the end of a rhythm section.

You’re just as much an idiot in moto as you are in non moto. I didn’t think that was possible.

Don’t shoot the messenger. He said it, not me.

You are literally just lying, what the fuck?

There was a crash last night and on the replay he said ok so he is taking off and as he hits the ramp oh he gets crossed up off the ramp. Didn’t know we had ramps in supercross.

Didn't LD and RC dumb down the red plate for the new fans of the sport at one point? I believe they were talking about RJ and Seth being tied and both had the red plate.

Ricky Carmichael’s use of English in the broadcast booth offers a fascinating case study in spoken, unscripted sports commentary by a non-professional communicator. His speech is marked by enthusiasm, informal phrasing, and a distinct stream-of-consciousness style. Here's a breakdown of his linguistic characteristics:

🔍 1. Sentence Structure: Fragmented and Redundant

RC frequently speaks in incomplete or run-on sentences, often layering clauses without finishing the original thought. This may be due to the pace of live commentary and his instinctive, reactive speech style.

Example:

“That could be a big move, and why, because that’s gonna help him just One More Better gate position than what he would get.”

Issues:

Redundant comparative: “One More Better”

Awkward clause: “than what he would get”

Tautology: “why, because”

Pattern: Starts strong but loses syntactic cohesion halfway through, likely due to speaking while thinking.

🧠 2. Vocabulary: Informal, Improvised, and Sometimes Invented

RC’s vocabulary is colorful but occasionally imprecise or incorrect. He often chooses familiar words but uses them in ways that disrupt clarity or register.

Notable examples:

Unchartered waters” → Should be “uncharted”

The comparing rate” → Possibly intended to mean "rate of comparison" or "pace difference"

Time gap” when describing spatial distance

Depth of parody” → Almost certainly meant "parity" (equality in competition)

These slips reveal:

Semantic substitution: Choosing a similar-sounding or semantically adjacent term

Cognitive overload: Mixing terms while under pressure to speak live'.

🗣️ 3. Register: Casual, Repetitive, and Formulaic

RC frequently falls back on stock phrases and exclamations that serve emotional rather than analytical purposes.

Examples:

“Ohhhhhhh, a pass!”

“Watch this pass right here!”

“And what I mean by that…”

“It’s gonna be fun to watch.”

“He’s setting up the pass.” (often when no pass happens)

This reflects a conversational register, heavy on:

Emotion over precision

Repetition as a filler (common in live commentary)

Listener engagement through enthusiasm rather than explanation

📚 4. Grammar and Syntax: Loose and Colloquial

RC’s grammar is often technically incorrect but intelligible to fans familiar with American informal speech.

Patterns:

Superfluous modifiers: “One More Better”

Misuse of pluralization: “Multiple, multiple wins”

Redundant causality: “And why, because…”

Shifting tenses: “He is… he was… he’s gonna…”

While this might irritate grammarians, it’s linguistically typical of spontaneous, spoken English—especially from someone not trained in broadcasting.

🎙️ 5. Commentary Style: Performative, Not Analytical

RC is not a linguistic technician. He doesn’t aim for refined language—he aims for impact, reaction, and personality. His style is more like a fan on the couch than a scripted sports anchor.

Implication:

He brings authenticity and credibility as a racer, even if it sacrifices clarity.

His gaffes are part of his identity—both criticized and celebrated by fans.

You’re not crazy. They’ve changed the official term to division instead of regional and Futures is now called Next.

And to throw another wrench at you, it sounds like the term “lites” is coming back for the 250 class. I would downvote this post if I could.

Oh for fucks sake.

1) Divisional makes no sense.

2) "Next" sounds stupid & cheesy AF.

3) If they bring back "Lites" im gonna roll my ass right off a cliff wtf.

At least they stopped calling it the lites class. That era drove me nuts.

Just fed in everyone's quotes of RC from this thread.

I think RC would do better just being himself.  He should have played the role of a uneducated ex-moto champion who kicked everyone’s ass with a chip on his shoulder.  He can’t fill the role of an announcer because that isn’t who he is.

Take a guy like AP who personifies a redneck cowboy.  He may not do good in the booth either, but if he played his character and didn’t try to be someone he’s not, everyone would still love him.

This debacle is a tactical error on the part of RC.  I love watching his interviews and think he does a good job.  He holds my attention and is easy to follow… just not in the booth.

RC is such a little bitch for turning off comments on all of his posts. Talk about knowing you fucked up and acknowledging it by silencing the people that do support him a long with the ones that dont.

This debacle is all because RC can’t let go of his ego. He can’t stand the thought of being irrelevant (in the current time frame not historically) in the sport.

NBC is also responsible for having years and years of evidence that the guy can’t speak in coherent thought when he’s under pressure and continually trotting him out there.

With that big of an ego and that much of a blind spot by NBC we could have ourselves very own Lee Corso/Lou Holtz.

In all fairness, do you expect him to allow himself to get railed out for months? People made their point but at some point you have to let it go. You can’t be more mad than the guy that was on the receiving end of his shit.

Notes from today: (just a few, I got sick of noting them tbh)

On rails in practice today. (Practice was cancelled Ricky, just 2 qualifying sessions)

This guy is here to do business.

He’s been on fire all season long. (As hammaker gets out front in his heat)

This 250 east class is no joke with a lot of heat in it, stacked class. (As I look at Neese, Colip, Roger’s, Fineis in qualifying position.)

Goes back to 2019 talking about forkner again ffs ?

Vohland inside line roll triple triple in whoops, no mention- blabbing about a hand brake!

Analysis of the pass on vohland from RJ was rubbish- prob got wheel spin- no idea

JT that was some 2005 Atlanta Supercross right there! (On JC/AP battle) - Huh, no idea what he’s talking about here.

Once again there were long long periods of zero analysis of the on track action. Hunter provided better insight.
