I was there, my first SX ever. Not only was it raining that night, it was frigid. It always raining, or cold, or both during those early years. 83 was the worst.  I remember one year (maybe 78 or 79) it was sleeting on the way to the stadium. It got better when they rebooted Atlanta on the schedule in the late-80s early 90s. Still, late February, outdoor stadium, it was always cold.

I was thinking that 81 was muddy also...either way I was on the floor for both....I do know in 81 we had drive through the night to Gainesville to wrap up both 250 and 500 pro class championships in the FL winter am....that was brutal as I had to prep the 250 before the races and had to replace the motor....

Damn, some of you guys must have insane memory. I can't remember who ran what numbers last year, much less 50 years ago.
