I'm a US citizen, not a student visa holder. There are limitations and restrictions on keeping a student visa. They can be revoked for bad grades. You only care now because it's happening under Trump.

Maybe you should read up on student visas, and what they are agreeing to when they apply for and get them. Common sense would be that if they signed up for one, and it stated breaking a US law could get their visa revoked, then don't break any laws.
Also, it seems the consequences are now being applied more objectively, rather than more subjectively as in the past.
