Far from it.

But I am about to make a large chunk of money reinvesting in stocks in the not to distant future. Pulled out a couple months ago, knowing Trump would do something foolish soon.

He did not disappoint.

Pity your dad didn’t follow suit with your strategy.

I’ve avoided this place all week because I didn’t want to see people here were still possibly supporting this failure.   Yikes.

Prison bully to the punk - “It makes perfect sense. I f—- you up the a-s everyday and I’ve got a chart that shows all the benefits you get. Ive got it all written down in my cell. After I beat you down and pass you around to all my favorite inmate buddies, I’ll show it to you.”

Great wordsmithing there, I think I remember that analogy from the SATs.

The funny thing is I'm a middle aged guy in the Midwest who works in manufacturing, I'm all for doing more manufacturing in the US.

I'm seeing a huge drop-off in manufacturing investment from major and small companies right now, I'm seeing supply chain disruptions on par with what we saw 5 years ago the last time trump was in office, im seeing input prices sky rocket, I'm seeing stock prices crater, I'm not seeing a clear strategy of why anyone should be spending money right now unless it is to buy stuff before inflation and tariffs pricing hits.

Are these tariffs to stop fentanyl? Are they to replace taxes? Are they to secure better trade agreement? If they are to get better trade agreements then we can agree that less trade barriers is better than more so by extension imposing all these tariffs is a bad thing.

Why should any countries deal with us if we are going to be schizophrenic assholes all the time? Why would they trust our government to make a deal and stick to it, look at the MCA.

This is a grand scheme to crash the economy and lower interest rates, but I don't know that the juice is worth the squeeze and nothing trump or any of his supporters are saying is convincing me it will work out they way they think it will.

Is all just so dumb.

Balancing trade? Is that what some of you think the actual goal is with this?

The goal is to get these countries to the table and secure better trade deals than what the US currently has with them.

How many will it work with? Time will tell.

Why do we need to secure better trade deals in the first place? We used to be the world's #1 super power when it came to manufacturing and exports. What happened in the last 40 years to change that? Did these other countries all of a sudden become mass innovators and producers and under cut the US?

Or, did our own country sell us out in the name of cheap shit and record profits?

Nope. It’s the capital owners that years and years ago decided to move their manufacturing overseas for better profit margins by utilizing child and slave labor.

Honest question for the economists or politicians in group.  As an alternate to tariffs, could you remove tax exemptions or increase taxes on companies that use foreign production instead of across the board tariffs? Lower taxes for companies that are American based and for small businesses. I just don’t see the US producing much of the goods we trade for anytime soon.

I can understand tariffs if our unemployment was really high, but we can’t find workers now. Maybe automation will help but I still see a shortage of Anerican workers. Could be wrong 🤷🏼‍♂️

So what Trump is doing is good for you, correct?

And for the rest, they need to look at the bigger picture.

I know, it’s sounds crazy that someone would spend billions on sh-t like that. But it’s one of many “special projects” over the last few years. Who knows, maybe the research they were doing would finally allow mice to identify correctly lol.

I’ll try and find you some other stuff like that - https://doge.gov

Chicken or egg question.

Did the mass offshoring of American manufacturing jobs that created record profits for share holders while also creating a middle/lower class wage gap that made cheaper products necessary, or did we as a society demand cheaper products at the cost of our middle class and these mega corporations just gave us what we asked for?

IMHO, cheaper shit from China was meant to mask the dismantling of the middle and lower class, while also making these corporations wildly profitable.

I can understand your point, but I don't see it as a chicken or egg question in the US market.

The consumers accepted it without concern for future ramifications. Therefore, it was no longer a taboo for other corporations to do the same, also without concern for the future. At some point along the way, I think it is plausible that certain interests saw it as a possibility to shrink the middle class as a means to an end. However, the question is which interests. It would certainly serve socialist and communist ideologies to destroy the middle class. For corporations to make money though, they need a strong middle class with disposable income to drive consumerism though.

I agree that we as a society accepted, even asked for it. I'd fancy a guess that the graph for offshoring of American jobs and the demand for cheap shit go up in lock-step.

That doesn’t do anything to change the status quo on trade…even-though your point about being “sold out” is absolutely correct.

Too many countries enjoy selling in our markets while penalizing our products in their markets. That’s what the actual issue is that this administration is taking on.

Go try to buy an American car in Europe…hell, try to buy one in South America! Or…Go buy a Harley in Japan.

As I sit here and thoroughly enjoy the typical hysterics by our usual suspects with their usual name calling and stupidity & I also sit here and realize they are obviously comfortable with the status quo.

I’m not.

And…I’m not an uninformed hysterical victim of the narrative as are they.

I’m an American manufacturer. I have countries that penalize my products with tariffs, duties, VAT…etc.

So, yes! We DO need to do better deals.
