Seems like they definitely screwed up. I have 2 close friends who both had a new CDI at their dealer within a week of requesting it and both stopped by for 10 minutes to have it swapped with the old one.
Just goes to show, not all dealers are equal.

Our 2017 KTM 250SX idler broke in 2018. KTM warrantied the cases (with 2018 cases) for us and performed the labor at no cost.
I can't understand if they are too tight or not? because you have said that it had a 2mm free play but others have commented that they were tight. They contradict each other, could you clarify? These days I plan to change the entire kit for a PRO X kit. Am I right?
Any updates from anyone that posted on this thread? Did the updates help and/or make no difference?
I ended up replacing the crank and had Twisted development do the complete motor it's a complete rideable rocket ship totally different bike than before! Way too many failures will have crank Works rebuild the stock one for a backup on the next rebuild they're aware of the issue!
What did you have Jaime do and what did it run? He programmed my Vortex for my 16 KTM350SXF. I’m a Smoker guy but I had to try a 350SXF since everyone raves about them.
They did a full wosner replacement crank and Rod, ported and polish the cylinder vhm head new piston V force reads Factory fatty pipe with Shorty silencer and then Dyno Tuned it and jetted it for VP U4.4! Was able to drop a tooth on the rear sprocket it pulls forever and very linear!
I supplied all the parts his work was about 1500
Has anyone had a failure after the CDI recall was installed? I was looking at a 22 150sx but this thread kinda scares me
Although I do see that rocky mountain has the 21 and prior cranks in stock... Maybe KTM would fancy a warranty on a bike with 32 hours on it.
Pit Row
Just picked up a low hour 22 SX125. Previous owner had the CDI recall done. My question/worry now is does that make everything fine? Not thrilled sending my 14 year old son out to huck a jump with the potential of bike failure caused by a faulty crank. Woods riding is one thing but we stick to tracks Have most owners of these bikes been fine since CDI recall or is a crank replacement the only way to go to ensure a solid bike?
I think most would agree - have crank rebuilt with a good rod kit. Or replace it with a new older version crankshaft up to 21. I think ktm superceded the 22 part number back to the 21 n older. Or consider the full crankshaft from wossner.
The CD I was just a Band-Aid rebuild the crank or replace it! It's worth the piece of mind while your kids out there on the track! Run it 32 to 1 on the premix the 22s are awesome bikes
Our 22 has had no crank issues @ 55 hours. I'm running a TSP ECU on it, and moved the unmodified 22 ECU to our 2020 125sx. I personally know of 2 crank failures on these and both were within a few hours of new so I'm not worried about ours. We run 40:1.
I will have Jim Hasaeker do a full rebuild on the 22 motor this winter, to include Crank Works doing the crank. We will be keeping these 125s until they are no longer safe to ride. They are excellent race bikes.
We lost the crank on our 22 125 at 65 hours. Not sure I'd blame KTM for it. It's up for debate on how long you should push a 125 crank. I did not have the recall done.
I've generally shot for 80-100 hours out of a 125 crank. I think it's influenced by maintenance habits (I am OCD here), how hard it's ridden, and how radical the build is. My kid hasn't run WFO all that much, but that's changing as he gets better. I also don't do a 5 hour piston build - our motors are not that crazy. 75 hours might be my new max from here on.
Thanks for the info guys. Just installed the Keihin TSP jetted carb and it runs so good now. Kid is super happy with it. I think I’ll do the crank this winter for peace of mind.
I have an opinion about this,,,,
Revive the thread . So, for peace of mind what do you recommend to do on a '22 150sx?. Replace the whole crank or just change the connecting rod (Pro X) ?
I would is Wossner personally.
We had the 22 SX125, we did the crank, TSP head, keihin carb, and aftermarket ECU. Really should’ve kept that bike as it was so good. KTMs “fix” was disappointing to say the least.
Woosner crank
