Years ago I was down south racing GNCCs. I was riding and pitted with a bunch of New England guys. By the end of the weekend I was talking full on Mass-hole 😆
Never go full Mass-hole.
I always thought it strange how singers lose their accents when performing, everyone becomes an American when singing in English
Or how British or Australian actors can sound perfectly American. I've lost count how many times I see an actor in an interview and find out they're British. On the flip side American actors can't do an Aussie or British accent to save their lives

British singers too. They sing so clear no accent and then when interviewed they sound nothing like their singing voice. Ozzy would be one example.
LoL good call on Ozzy! The actor that really through me off was guy who played Rick on the Walking Dead. I saw an interview and was like, he's British?!
The OP’s initial post was about Chad…and he’s the subject, but to take shots at Chad’s wife & their kids is cheap and inappropriate…even if this is Vital.
Couple weeks in Texas and y’all starts creeping into my vocabulary. Lol
My dad is American, lived in London 50 years and sounds full yank.
Vast majority of people pick up accents. Definitely not a conscious effort.
You know what people don’t pick up accents? People who can’t ‘do’ other accents. It’s like being able to roll your tongue, you can either do it or you can’t.
To me, he strangely sounds more German now than he did when he first started racing SX.
In the 2011 MXDN Team Australia interview, Matt Moss makes fun of Chad Reed and Brett Metcalf and says they "sound like a coupla yanks!" 😃. It's hilarious! Someone find the link please.
Accents are interesting things. I found it fascinating that my mother, father, and uncle all spoke Ukrainian as children, before learning English when they went to school but ended up with much different accents. My mother had no Ukrainian accent whatsoever. My dad had a slight Ukrainian accent. My uncle had a thick Ukrainian accent.
As far as my mother went, part of it, I think, was education. My mother went to college and was a teacher. Her English was perfect (she was always correcting my grammar mistakes). The difference between my father and uncle though, I can't explain as easily. My parents spoke Ukrainian frequently - in conversations at home, they'd flip freely and frequently between English and Ukrainian, depending on what they were talking about or what they were trying to say (some things aren't easily translatable). They also spoke to my grandparents in Ukrainian exclusively. So, I'm a bit surprised that my mother had no Ukrainian accent.
It seems some people lose the accent over time, some don't.
I think America is a country where you need to lose the accent somewhat to get by. In my experience, this was a fairly common occurrence:
Chad probably changed the way he spoke early on to help get by. If I lived in the states I definitely would. Was frustrating repeating myself when i felt I had spoken clearly. So the accent would slip away for the sake of others.
