Why do they make the AM Day Daytona track so lame?

Glad you posted this.  Was looking to check this off of the bucket list with some buds from California.  If I drove there expecting to ride the whole track.....  that would have hurt.

Lack of available ambulances?

Too many entries to run the whole track? No one would get home before Easter.

Speaking of which, who’s got an easy slow cooker recipe that I can use to make some bbq pulled pork or beef? I found a random pork chop recipe in a race thread a couple years ago. May as well ask here for a new crock pot one

If you’re looking to branch out a bit I have an al pastor slow cooker recipe for pulled pork that’s amazing. Little different obviously but in the same family if you will

Some years they do a good job making it challenging but safe. This year they just went for safe. Nothing about it was an amateur sx. 

Because there would be bodies stacked along the track. 

Its a huge money grab  for the “ grow the sport” types…. Last few years I did the Vintage day because I like seeing the old bikes, they blow you out quickly, its really just a supporting role to the quad races…but those 2$ “Major Event” plaques are sick👌

It's for safety. I'm going to give you guys some personal experience: 

In 2003, I raced the amateur day at the San Diego Supercross. It was the day after the race, and the bulldozers had gone out and flattened the whoops by a huge amount, removed the first jump from all the triples, and cleaned up all the lines. Now, at the time I was a winning +30 Intermediate, but I was barely able to get around that track on my first few laps of practice. Supercross is a whole other animal, and not everyone is going to be able to handle it. Especially not the 125 C class. I can't even imagine that type of track in the sandy infield at Daytona!

They just want to make sure they're not carting kids off on stretchers all day long. 

even though it is extremely tamed down id still love to go race it just to say i did. i think racing the vintage class would be pretty cool. 

I raced the last Amateur day race at the Metrodome back in 1996. Glad I did, and I like the trophy, but the hardest part of the day was starting the KX outside when it was 25 below.

I raced the Daytona Amateur SX a few times, last was probably 2015. I haven't seen this year's track for comparison, but it was knocked down and shortened when I raced it. The track got rough enough that I wasn't wishing for any bigger obstacles! Yes, it's probably tamed down more than necessary for the top guys in fastest classes but for the majority of classes it was fine. A simpler track tends to make for closer racing and better battles since you can focus on racing the track rather than worrying about hitting big obstacles. Also keep in mind that bikes as small as 50s or 60s were racing there too.

I raced the very last am day at the Georgia dome before they imploded it and they turned that track into a turd. It was a cool experience to race in the dome but past that it wasn’t much. 

I raced the Astrodome in the 90s and all they did was push up dirt on the face of the triples where you couldn't try to triple. We raced the morning before the race starting at about 6:00, so they didn't have time to make too many changes. They didn't have the afternoon program like they have now, just the qualifiers at night.

All this "growing the sport" stuff is making it awfully hard for me to participate in it lol

1984 Foxboro SX Am day I raced 125C, legit C as first year of MX racing.  I think I bounced off the track countless times.  They probably reduced the jumps and whoops height but it was like nothing I'd ever ridden before. No triples or quads but no walk in the park, for me anyway.  Here is a pic from an easier section.  No tough block to complain about just a nice stake to my left. Looks like the cleaning crew in the old Patriots stadium didn't get to work.
