I shipped a new-in-the crate '75 'white shark" to England when I got stationed there on my first Air Force assignment in '76. I'm old and senile now but I remember if there was traction that thing was a rocket and cornered amazing well (not so much on hard pack). The only real drawback was the monoshock was crap and the swing arm might as well have been welded to the frame. Of course I only weighed about a buck fifty...it was definately set up for a heavier rider. I got to hang out a little with Pete Bavin who's dad owns the Yamaha shop in Diss. He had a '77 YZ and the power was smoother but the shock was a vast improvement. P.S. the Bavin's are cool people.

I also had one of those beasts, a devil to ride for sure. Ended up taking the motor out and putting it in a shifter cart! Worked great for thatSmile Otherwise it was a death trap.

I seem to remember some numb hands for sure but it was as smooth as a baby's @ss compared to my buddy's old SC500. That thing made your teeth hurt and you could turn a train around faster than that thing changed directions.

Yeah Doc...I jumped off my 125 Elsinore here in the states and tried racing that monster in England. My results were pretty dismal and I was too poor to do much about it...but it was still a mega blast and met a lot of great people. I think they took pity on me because of that bike.

A friend had a 360 when we were 12. Absolute beast of a bike. So my dad throws me on a Husky 360 auto which I promptly looped out. Scared the heck out of me.

I race mine in the FLVMX series. It`s damn sure fast and seems to handle O.K. but you don`t want to come up short on any doubles. Took me 2 months to heal. The forks will definately bend. I have to rotate the tubes about every 3 races 180 degrees. Other than that it`s a blast to ride.

Had a few '75 MX250B models. Swing arm flex was a big problem with the B models. Saw more than one pitch the chain in the whoops of Florida when they started swapping, a couple times taking out the LH center case. My older brother had a 400B that he made into a hillclimber when we lived in Bakersfield,Ca.

In the early 90's, he put a 400B engine in his Shell framed flat track bike. With very minor tuning,it was making dyno pulls in the 47-48 RWHP range. In AHRMA 251-600 modern sportsman ,nothing would run with it on a half mile.

It was a shaker though. Even with a Falicon assembled and balanced crank, clutch and flywheel, it would crack pipes and the frame often. Had to take it out after a few races to preserve the rare Shell frame.

I would say thats not how to do it,,,lol
Never rode a MX400, but when i seen this i thought of the TM400 , the first open bike i rode was a Yz 465 in 80 or 81, was one of J . Cartier Yamaha support bikes, it was way faster than the RM250 i was racing at the time.

I have more hours on one of those than you guys would ever believe. First real race bike I ever had, dad got it for me brand new in later '76. I made more laps at Rio on that thing than I can remember.

Wish I had the scratch, would love to have one again.

There is a sequence of photos of my stupid fat ass trying to hang with the "A" riders. I think I might have been just a little over confident for my own good.
