Well......factory bike with unlimited resources is a bit different. His is even better than factory being able to choose suspension etc without limits. The fact id most of these guys would be better staying on the same platform. How many "new bikes" (like the new Honda) are great for the consumer, but the factory teams struggle? Happens all the time.
Maybe their wives are cool with it, and support their husbands spending the money they earned on a hobby they love?
Sounds like your "friend"'s wife is a battle axe
*2018, but who’s counting.
Maybe they’ll tell their wives they need to sell their KTM, buy an rmz, and then buy an old factory motor with the magic works transmission. I know one 40+ rider put that combo in ax mains this year 😂. He has less in this bike than any factory edition.
I hear Kenny bike is fully stock straight off the showroom floor too..
Absolutely love the graphics man 🤘
Well a mate’s wife infamously told him that if he felt he really needed to update his bike, than he’d need to update both his ‘rides’, which if he did, then she’d make sure he wouldn’t be able to afford a new bike 😂
Don’t get me wrong, that bike is well developed, but “unlimited resources” is something I really don’t think is the case over there. Works parts, suspension, etc., all costs a team money. They will lease parts or pay technicians, or have to buy parts from the factory or get the drawings and still pay to have them produced stateside. They seem to be saving money in a lot of places.
-they’re on production 250 suspension, after ditching the factory showa stuff. No coatings, just great tuning. They bought KYB kit stuff and were too disappointed in the price vs reward to get the same stuff with coatings. I believe they were paying for Showa stuff and a technician assigned to the team.
-they’re just recently got the factory transmission. They could have bought it sooner from JGR. Derek Drake ran a JGR motor in his HEP 450 that I would be willing to bet had the magic tranny. You and I can buy that motor.
-they don’t run a lot of works parts they could. Clamps? Production 250 with a $65 stem from JGR, not the $1500 clamps. ECU? Vortex rather than the works Suzuki unit. They even ran OEM wheels until Roczen broke a hub towards the end of his first year there.
It’s not the first time a bike has been very production based. Heck, remember Short’s one SX win? Last generation carbureted YZ450F’s come to mind as well as I think they ran coated oem suspension, and the geico honda 250’s that ran revalved oem suspension and Kibby saying their motor would run about 3k (at the time, probably more now with inflation). Roczen and Webb have both advocated at various teams to get to use more production based bikes.
This is one of the only motorsports that the rider is the biggest factor by a long shot.
Most people on here would get smoked by a good kid on a 85.
This is simple. If you take a good platform and keep refining it, over time you end up with a stellar performing bike. When the other OEMs keep reinventing the wheel every few years because the sheep demand "updates" because they think it helps them win another plastic trophy at the local lick-skillet MX track, you literally keep starting over with each refresh and turn the customers into guinea pigs finding all the bugs/flaws. And after a few years the OEM finally gets all those bugs are all fixed, then they push out yet another a new model chock fulla new stuff to be ironed out yet again. Suzuki has the right idea - stick with what works and make it better.
The Zook is a great platform and Kenny is proving that to the world.
Roger had a hand in developing both of them. Can't go wrong when a bike has some DeCoster DNA...
I feel like this is a personal attack on me and I don’t like it! BECAUSE ITS TRUE!
🤪🤪
I called Kenny for the win tonight before the first heat race. I thought a track with long ruts and sketchy rhythms played right into the hands of a big stable Suzuki. I think one of the best spots he made up time was tripling into that raised corner and doubling out. He did it so perfectly every lap.
I can trick my wife into thinking a new dirt bike is $15k. I’d have a hard time explaining why I “need” to buy $8k of parts for the new bike that cost me $7k. When you get married you’ll understand.
He quite literally did not.
Pit Row
Happens to me every Tuesday at Pala. It’s the kids on 65’s passing me that makes me hate myself though.
Well the ones I saw it looked perfect. Did it enough times perfect to win I guess.
I can tell you from experience, the roost from an 85 hurts!
He did ride great. It probably had to do with his German heritage. They don’t fuck around tbh. Every German I’ve ever read about gasses it hard and incinerates everyone in their path.
This is such a terrible argument to bring to the table.
Saying this insinuates that other bikes on that gate ARE straight off the showroom floor.
And we all know they are all heavily modified from stock.
This is an argument which holds zero weight.
Trolling used to mean something. I'm glad 17 vet riders have disliked my post.
Trolling is better when attempted by someone capable of it .....
Tubesteak_Cowboy - tube steak is slang for penis and a cowboy rides a horse. Perhaps you meant Tubesteak_Cowgirl?
I got you to reply didn't I? Thanks for explaining my username to me. I had no idea what it meant. Alarming to say the least.
I don’t understand the question. Why would there be anything to explain? A guy who’s not winning shit no matter what bike he has can buy what he likes for whatever reasons he sees fit. Maybe he likes Red Bull graphics and orange triple clamps. What does Ken winning on a Suzuki have to do with that? Does any vet rider buy a factory edition because he thinks it’s a magic formula for moto success?
I hope the couch/doghouse treats you well tonight buddy 🙏🏻 Godspeed
Can you cite a single example of a vet rider's wife demanding and answer on this?
Post a reply to: How are vet riders on KTM Factory Editions explaining Ken winning Daytona on a 2016 Suzuki to their wives?
