I have no problem with quad racers. Most I've met are just as cool as anyone else and one of my good friends races quads. I used to build all his 250r motors for him. His bikes were fast as hell, (especially the 320 power valve ones) but there's no way in hell I'd race one on an MX track!

And yea the tracks are a lot smoother(but that doesnt mean they are smooth) than dirt bike national tracks.
but bikes can handle ruts fifty times better than a quad can. they dont have two lines they need to keep track of. They can be taller than quads so they can have more/better suspension than them. AND TIRES!
Dirt bike tires are huge compared to the motorcross tires that quads use. The taller the tires the faster you can hit things and not feel as much

Thats why we see stupid people always doing stupid things on them.
but when you try to go fast on a quad, your thoughts of quads being easy gets all turned around. That is why we have to have such expensive race quads because to race them being stock, you would kill yourself just trying to hang on. so we need expensive aftermarket parts. With a well tuned stock dirt bike you can ride quite fast.
And i think the thread starter was just trying to get a little more respect for quads.
So, to answer you in the respectful way I fully expected you to have: The term Motocross was invented to describe motorcycles racing over a natural terrain dirt track DECADES before ATVs were invented.

TERRY-Don't know if it's aimed at me, but I have been a member of this site and motonews for YEARS and a bike fan since back before I ever even stepped over the seat of a quad. I love to ride bikes, watch the bikes, Make the DIlla, Southwick, BInghampton (R.I.P.), KROC bike races nearly every year.
I have raced both and know how much harder it is to go just as fast on a quad as the bike. Anyone who doesn't think its impressive doing faster lap times on a quad than a bike, just because its a quad.......there is just no point.

I finished one lap and returned it to him. He asked me what I thought of it and I told him it was cool, but it just wasn't for me. In truth, I thought it was a big, heavy, awkward, poorly suspended deathtrap. I was amazed that he could ride it so well. I felt like a total squid. Later on, he took someone's bike out for a spin and could hardly ride it in a straight line. He kept putting his feet down, stalling it, tipping over in turns, etc.
Anyway, the point is that they're two totally different sports and skills from one do not necessarily transfer over to the other. I respect the riders that can go fast on a quad and I know for sure that I'm not capable of it myself. Unfortunately, as a motocross racer, I just can't help but think that quads are lame. You'll have to excuse me and my brethren here at VitalMX. It's in our nature to hate on you.

Talking with Joel Ard , he mentioned something about a track over in his neck of the woods there some where to. Beavercreek area I think? he said when i get up and running , to get a hold of him and come ride with him. You been over there yet?
Hopefully it goes through because with longview and riverdale in jeopardy, we dont have many places left to ride.
I'll actually be at albany this weekend and probably the next few wednesdays. Also next thursday there is an invitational race at the clark county fair in washington...
Wherever we race, there are always all these DGAFfed out quad goons racing through the pits and looking at their dust trail.
Anyways man.....I aint a quad hater like some of these guys. I just prefer the bikes. Riding on the same track as the quads can be a little difficult since the lines kind of all disappear. We depend on those ruts and berms for speed.
I remember Jesse Goss coming up to Hindsight a few times.......and I swear i had to spend 3-4hrs with a high track mini CAT with a bucket picking up all the dirt on the "outside" of the fence HAHA!! he was a cool kid from what i remember.
Also....not sure if you know these guys...but there were a couple young kids and their dad that used to come in and ride their quads. Their dad made hi performance chassis parts for quads . They were just starting out with that stuff when I first met them , and within a year , it sounded like it was working out really well for them and they were selling stuff right and left.
Anyways.....I'll try and hook up with you Cody and we can do some riding......just don't run me over with that damn quad....please! hehe.
I totally understand where your coming from and I feel the same way. Quads and bikes shouldn't be on the track at the same time. It always ends bad. Although most tracks don't have separate days to ride, at least they are learning to split up the practices. Unlike the thursday practice at glen helen which can be quite scary.

Jeffro, I used to race against you some. Seems like you were on KX250s and depending on the year I was either on RM250s or CR250s (#191)
I've ridden the Timber Ridge track. It was a kick but there were only a handfull of us there. I'm not sure how it would handle much of a crowd, just from the parking standpoint.
I know of another track out Beavercreek that we've always called the Tree Farm track. That might be the private one you're talking about.
Wish I could join you guys at Albany but those days are behind me given that I'm still recovering from breaking both hips on Jan 1. I can't afford the divorce lawyer if I ride mx again.
Cody......that's odd , I'm a drywall remodel contractor , and i've heard of Black diamond construction as well. I've done quite a bit of work all over Oregon city , west linn , Lake Oswego and that general area. I'm based out of St helens OR , but about 99% of my work is all the Portland and surrounding areas.
man....it is a small world.
