171 in the early days (which I thought looked really cool on my bike). The district gave me 174 when I started racing again since 171 was taken. I hated that number, so I asked for a new one the next year and was given 94.
Now, people probably think I'm some kind of Ken Roczen fanboy because I ride a Suzuki, but I started running that number before Ken was even born. Lol. I also used that number when I raced the open class on a CR500.
Dolly P. approved!!!
In NESC when you moved up to Amateur AKA B class these days, you could get a 2 digit or single digit number if available. A friend had a lot of respect in the organization and took me to see Andy C who said i could have #3. It was a no brainer.
I've been #241 since 1980 when I sign up for my first race. Southern Ohio District 11 gave me 241K , still have my original D11 card.
244 is what AHRMA gave me it was the closest I could get to 241.

Was #33 in soccer all my kid life through high school. Tried to get 33 when I started racing in 1999, it was taken, tried to get 333 which was also taken, so 332 it is!
that's my bmx number this year, haha
In kindergarten, we had a "get to know each other" activity where we had to pick a favorite number. I had no idea, so my teacher suggested 9. It stuck—I was later assigned it in sports and chose it whenever I could.
Fast forward to 2003, I got my first dirt bike. By 2005, my cousin introduced me to motocross, and I became obsessed with Ivan Tedesco—he was fast, had the right attitude, and in 2006, he picked 9 as his career number while riding for Suzuki, my favorite team. That same year, I got a 2005 RM125 and put 9 on it—only to get roasted by my friends for running a single digit. I swapped it for 714 (my birthday) and ran that number for years.
I fell away from riding in 2011 but got back into it in 2018 after an epic day on a private track. That ride reignited my passion, and I decided I didn’t care what anyone thought. I swapped 714 for 9, and I’ve never looked back.
Sorry for the long post.
73. Because I am the world ranked 73rd fastest rider in the 40+ 125cc over 230lbs over 6'9" class. 😆
Had some goon 3 digit #”s when I first started racing, you know, whatever they gave you at signup…I always liked the #7, so I tried to work that in my # ….setteled on #47 for a long time, but when I joined NESC back in the mid 90”s, someohad that #, so I had to choose a 3 digit …. Went with #768, figured nobody would ever have this # so I wouldn’t have to ever change it, still running it …funny when I qualified for LLynn”s few years back they gave me my old Amateur
# 47…..
You are in good company there, homie!
My best friend’s number is 300. Originally he was #30 on PWs, because he thought the 30 second board girls were holding up signs cheering for #30, so he figured he would just ride the wave. Our second or third year racing, a new kid registered before him and took #30 so he just added a 0 to it and it’s been 300 for almost twenty years now.
401, donny shmidt passed away and randy moody ran the number after, then my dad would ride randys practice bikes and help out a little with bike work and eventually started running the 401 after randy moved on to car racing, then i was born and inherited the number from my dad
My 1986 CR250R at Southwick on a nice sandy day in 1986. Running the #3.
My number was 70 most of the time. There were a few years where I snoozed on renewlal and lost it. Was #40 afew years and #85 for a few toward the end.
Challenge accepted Hinze #57
Does your number belong to you or your bike?
191. Danny Laporte ran that number later in his career in the mid-80s. He was running a Husky with that number one year at the Astrodome in Houston and I liked the way it looked and sounded so started using it after getting a new YZ in 86.
725.
Pit Row
AMA district 7 Maryland
C class 60
B class 124

Pro AM 790
I ran 46 years ago but when I started racing again I wanted a 3 digit number, so I added a 1 to make it 461 after the famous stihl chainsaw model.
My son picked 38 when he was on a kx65 because 3 is tomacs number and 8 is his favorite number. Then he switches to a yz65. Then Deegan dropped the 2 of his 3 digit rookie number. So everyone thinks he's this big Deegan fan(38 on a yamaha) but he's actually not.
