I have no opinion on Trump and the economy, but the constitutional crisis issue is one I'm watching with great interest (I have a background in jurisprudence - in particular, the general justification of law's claims to authority, with a small foray in one paper into intra-institutional authority and deference). The issue is that to this point in American politics, every President has simply agreed to be bound by the law (even Nixon, who said "if the President does it it's legal" grudgingly complied with court orders).  It does not seem beyond the realm of possibility that Trump will, at some point, defy a ruling against something he wants to do, basically saying "screw you" to the courts. What then? Nobody knows because it's unprecedented. That's what makes it interesting. I'm not saying this to bash Trump. I'm saying this because if it does happen, he will be pushing the limits of executive power into uncharted territory and what happens will be of tremendous importance. He could fundamentally reshape the way the separation of powers is configured if he sets a new precedent and the other branches of government acquiesce. Alternatively, the other branches of government could push back - then what? Either way, it's not crazy to call it a constitutional crisis. Whether it will happen or not is another thing, and whether you approve or not yet another.

Don't you find historically there has been many instances when federal leaders, not just Presidents, have pushed back on the courts or even did things they knew were illegal or unconstitutional? Off the top of my head, I can think of at least a couple instances. The whole constitutionality thing and constitutional crisis deal seems a convenient wreath for posturing politicians to garland around their neck when grandstanding, but ever since its creation most of the time for politicians the constitution is an inconvenience to be "interpreted" when explaining their wishes or policies. If not openly ignored. Hypothetically, couldn't it be interpreted that our federal government's broad reaching powers since WW2, maybe even the Civil War, are in violation of the intent of the document? The original framers made some very specific decisions based upon their interpretations that current decisions and policies are a direct contrast to it seems.

An example here in Texas would be Obama and DACA.

If not openly ignored. Let me see if I'm understanding you correctly because your take on this seems to me quite sensible, and could give me reason to rethink my idea that there is any increased likelihood of a pending constitutional crisis to find interesting. The question, then, is: What has so many legal scholars on edge? I think the heart of the matter is stated by this writer:

"It seems obvious that Trump and Musk are running the basic play we’ve seen before from Musk and other Silicon Valley billionaires–move fast, break things (with “things” very much including the law), and then dare folks to try and do something about it."

https://buttondown.com/sbagen/archive/why-write-about-the-illegality-of-what-trump-and/

A perceived difference seems to be the scope and scale of what is happening all at once.  Government usually moves slowly and methodically, so the speed and volume of changes that Trump is making must seem like something of a blitzkrieg to establishment types. The other is that according to scholars such as above, Trump and Musk are breaking the law with reckless abandon - without any concern for constitutionality.

Regarding the second of the two differences listed above, you raise an important point: It's far from an anomaly for a politician to do what he wants to do and then basically concoct a post hoc rationalization of the legality or constitutionality of their actions. When legal scholars aren't panicked by their fear of Trump (I don't pay much attention to the MSM but I do follow a blog by a prominent philosopher of law who discusses/links to reactions to Trump amongst jurists) they typically understand this very well, and accept it as normal.

Regarding the first - the scope, scale, and suddenness of what is happening - this may indicate that to people not used to such things (and the political and legal establishment is populated almost entirely by such people) this is all quite discombobulating. So if I'm understanding you correctly, you'd advise stepping back, taking a deep breath, and then putting this in the context of history to realize that, at least thus far, nothing happening thus far is overly unique in principle (and uniqueness in approach isn't a principled problem, regardless of how off putting some may find it). This is not an unreasonable take on things.

My son is very knowledgeable regarding American constitutional design (he is very conservative, very smart - much more so than I - and loves all things American) and has said to me many times pretty much exactly what you said in your last couple of sentences.

Reagan, just like Trump, was left a mess from the previous administration. Jimmy Carter was the worst president in History before Biden stole the crown. Trump will also steal the crown from Reagan for being the best President in recent history. Just look what Trump has done in less than a month. If you don’t see it, it is because you do not want to see it.  Trump is doing what we elected him to do.

What executive order or action has he taken to improve the economy?  Nothing he said during the campaign has happened.  Prices are still high and going higher with these tariffs. Gas prices will not drop because he wants to "drill baby, drill".  And he is putting people out of work at every turn.

The "economy " isn't the federal government. The federal government doesn't produce anything or take raw material and add labor to it, thereby increasing its value.

The cost of the federal government is a drain on the economy. Any dollar saved from the federal budget is a dollar that doesn't have to get pulled out of the economy via taxation. Any job eliminated from the federal government is a wage that doesn't have to come from some other productive source.

An executive branch that can finally  demonstrate that it is serious about limiting the spending of a federal government that conservatively wastes 70 cents of every dollar it takes will signal to the productive members of the "actual " economy that being productive is worth it.

You could have just said "nothing" as your answer.

Either way, there are billions, if not trillions of dollars that go back into the economy from the Federal government.  Things like contracts for infrastructure projects.  Purchasing raw materials and goods to help the needy.  And every dollar doesn't need to result in a product.  You get no "profit" from law federal law enforcement agencies, but when they stop a terrorist attack it makes it all worthwhile.

Lastly, TRUMP is the one that said he could fix the economy.  I guess we see that the the economy wasn't what was really important to people...

There are two main series in NC.  Mid-East hare scrambles runs NC and SC.  The North Carolina Hare Scrample Association only runs in NC.  There is also the Full Gas GP series that runs several States and US Sprint Enduro runs multiple states, but they have a stop in NC I believe.  VA also has a couple of series.

Don't ask a question then ignore the answer. Taking money out of the economy and putting some of it back isn't super efficient.  Trump did say he could fix the economy, this is part of what he's doing to start that process.

It took a year into Biden's administration before inflation got out of control, maybe give Trump a couple months to show some progress.

The answer has no truth in it, that is why it is unacceptable.  Putting people out of work via firings or cutting funds to programs does nothing to help the economy.  BUYING A COUNTRY does nothing to help the economy.  Scaling back DEI doesn't help the economy.  Deporting workers doesn't help the economy.  See why the given responses are unacceptable...

You have a bad understanding of basic economic principles. It is understandable that you aren't understanding logic due to your hate for the current administration. But put your emotion aside for a moment, eliminate Trump from the equation, and imagine if Biden or even Obama appointed Musk to investigate government waste. Eliminating or lessening the cost or burden of government on the people, attempting to make government more efficient and effective. Wouldn't that be an economically good thing? Of course it would.

No, it is just bad "logic".  And how are you going to put a guy in charge of "investigating waste" that was under investigation by the government???

Trumptards have learned from their master. Never admit defeat or doing anything wrong. Everything is the greatest ever, best thing ever done, such a great day. Trump , along with Musk, is their Lord and savior.

You do understand every dime the government has is generated by working people, right? That every increase in  government spending is derived by reducing the spending power of it's citizens. That the manifestation of a people's productivity is the spending power they have and that government spending drains that spending power from it's citizens. You do understand these very simple facts? Your government can not pull money from thin air.

Trumptards have learned from their master. Never admit defeat or doing anything wrong. Everything is the greatest ever, best thing ever done, such a great day. Trump , along with Musk, is their Lord and savior.

The problem is you think only Trumptards have that problem. Libtards have it too.

Biden was one of the worst Presidents in the history of this country and people couldn’t wait to vote for Kamala who would have undoubtedly been worse than Biden.

Tribalism will eventually bring this once great country to ruins.

Or make it 2 great countries

Or split it into 1 great country and 1 3rd world country

Spoon, we established back on page 1 of this thread that P ain’t gots no time for basic economic principles.  His only desire is to vilify Trump.  You will never get him to admit or acknowledge that the economy will be healthier, more productive or just better once it, to quote a famous word salad philosopher, “becomes unburdened by what has been.”  He has his mission and will not deviate.
